19th Annual Beaufort Shrimp Festival – South Carolina

The Beaufort Shrimp Festival is almost here! Pack up your appetite for delicious food and boat loads of fun because the 19th Annual Beaufort Shrimp Festival is kicking off two days of unrivaled fun on October 4th through Saturday night October 5th. Its one of the most popular Beaufort South Carolina festivals in America’s Happiest Seaside Town named by Coastal Living Magazine. The inaugural Shrimp Festival debuted 19 years ago to celebrate and promote the local shrimpers and their wild caught shrimp.

This year, the arts and crafts vendors will start things off on Friday during the day and will remain throughout the event. Later, with cheerfully lit shrimp boats providing a stunning back drop, the “festivities” will begin at 6pm with live music and enticing food. Residents and visitors to this South Carolina coastal community can stroll around to the cheerful sounds of Deaz Guyz, known locally for their blend of Reggae, Motown, hip-hop, and popular rock. They will be playing all evening as visitors experience a wide variety of restaurant offerings with shrimp cast in the starring role.

Residents of nearby Beaufort SC neighborhoods including the oh-so-close Coosaw Point, winner of the 2013 Happiest Community of the Year, will be familiar with the deliciously diverse food vendors scheduled to present their innovative Lowcountry cuisine at this Beaufort SC festival. Some of these are Paninis by the Waterfront, Plums, Q on the Bay, Emilys Tapas Restaurant & Bar, Sea Eagle Market, Papaya, Gilligans of Beaufort, Southern Graces & Burlap, Yes! Thai Indeed, the Foolish Frog, Brusters Real Ice Cream and more; each offering something different and delectable. While shrimp is the star of the festival here in one of the best places to live in South Carolina, food for the seafood intolerant will be widely available.

On Saturday the fun begins early in this South Carolina coastal community with the 5k Bridge Run/Walk over the Woods Memorial Bridge which is USATF (USA Track and Field) certified. Anyone from the nearby Beaufort SC neighborhoods wishing to take part must enter prior to the race. Kids dont have to miss out on the fun; they have their own Popcorn Shrimp Race. Theres even a Shrimp Race. Visitors who find their way to the Sea Island Rotary booth can adopt a rubber shrimp. During the afternoon, 5,000 adopted, floating, rubber shrimp will be dropped into the Beaufort River, and the winners of this very unique charity race can win a cash prize and the chance to win a million dollar grand prize.

Yet another shrimp-themed contest, adults are invited to participate in the shrimp heading contest followed by the kids shrimp peeling contest. All of the food and beverage booths open at 11am along with the Arts & Crafts Market and the childrens area. The East Coast Party Band will be playing their Carolina Beach Music all day to keep everyone tapping their toes, shaking their tails, and singing along as they make their way through the festival.

Throughout the day residents from nearby Beaufort SC neighborhoods attending this treasured Beaufort SC festival will be encouraged to vote for their favorite restaurant for the Peoples Choice Award which will be presented toward the end of the day along with awards for the Best Shrimp Dish, the Best Booth Decoration, and the Silver Cup.
