Course Championships/GCAC Qualifying Entry into the Greater Cleveland Amateur Championship is through earning an exemption (see reverse side) or by qualifying through the course championships at Sleepy Hollow, Manakiki, Shawnee Hills and Big Met golf courses. The 36-hole Course Championships will be conducted on Saturday July 18 and Sunday July 19 or Saturday July 25 and Sunday July 26.  Each Championship is limited to the first 84 players entered.  With full or near full fields, the top 10 players and ties will advance to the GCAC. The committee reserves the right to adjust the numbers of qualifying position (up or down) based on the field size at each course. Big Met entries normally close early. The field at each Course Championship will be cut after the first round to the low 50% of the field plus all players within 15 shots of the last qualifying position. Championship Schedule The GCAC will be contested over 54 holes at stroke play. All players will play Friday teeing off between 12:30 and 2:30 p.m., and Saturday teeing off between 8 and 10 a.m.  A cut will be made after the second round of The Championship to the low 50% of the field and ties, plus all additional players within ten shots of the lead. Sunday’s final round will begin teeing off at 8 a.m. with the leaders in the last group. Fees

All players, including those who are exempt, shall enter using an official entry form.  Entry fees for the Course Championships are 0 or 0 depending upon location, which includes the green fees. All players who earn their entry into the Championship through one of the qualifiers will pay no further entry fees.  For exempt players, the entry for the Championship proper is 0, which includes all green fees.  Carts are optional and not included in the entry fee. Caddies and spectators are welcome. In all rounds, male contestants will play from the back tees, females will play from forward tees.Entry

To enter one of the Course Championships, or to enter as an exempt player, please mail or deliver the entry form below. Entries may be delivered at any of the four qualifying sites, or mailed to: 2015 GCAC, c/o Cleveland Metroparks Golf, 35501 Eddy Rd.  Willoughby Hills, OH 44094.  Deadline to enter is July 12th  for Big Met and Manakiki and July 19th for Sleepy Hollow and Shawnee Hills or when the field is full, exempt player entry deadline is July 26th.Additional Information

Contestants are expected to have a current handicap index of 7.4 or less, in order to reasonably compete for a qualifying spot.   A USGA handicap index is not required for entry to this event. 

Entries are subject to rejection at any time (including during the Championship and Qualifying) by the Tournament Committee.  The reason for rejection may include unbecoming conduct.Rules of Golf; Close of Competition

Play will be governed by the Rules of Golf as approved by the USGA.  Questions will be resolved by the Tournament Committee, whose decision will be final. The competition shall be deemed to have closed when the Championship trophy has been presented.Golf Balls; Driver Heads

Only brands of golf balls on the current USGA List of Conforming Golf Balls and driver heads on the most current USGA List of Conforming Driver Heads may be used. This list may be found on the USGA website at www.usga.org. The so-called “One-Ball Rule”, the optional condition prescribed in Appendix I of the Rules of Golf, shall not be in effect.Distance Measuring Devices

During a stipulated round of this competition a player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance only. If a player uses a distance measuring device that is designed to measure other conditions that might affect his play (gradient, wind speed, temperature, etc) the player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional functions are actually used.

The distance between any two objects on the course is considered public information and not advice.Tee Times/Time of Starting

Players should contact the course starting the Wednesday before play to obtain tee times.Caddies

Competitors may provide their own caddie. No caddies are available at the course. Caddies may rent a golf cart; however only two carts will be permitted on the course with each group. Players have priority on using a cart. A player is not required to employ a caddie for any stage of the Championship.Weather

In the event of inclement weather, the Course Championships/

Qualifiers may be shortened to 18 holes and the Greater Cleveland Amateur Championship to 36 holes. Transportation

Rental carts are available for use during the tournament.  Only two carts are permitted for each group.  Players within a group must decide the users of any carts.  A caddie or spectator may pay to ride in a cart if the players are not using it. Spectators

During the tournament spectators are welcome.  Spectators are responsible for their own safety while on the golf course.Exemptions from Qualifying

Players in the following categories will be eligible for exemption from qualifying:

  1. Past Champions, and the top ten finishers from the 2014 Championship.  Past Senior Champions, and the top five finishers from the 2015 Senior Championship.  The 2014 Cleveland Metroparks Course Championship winners.
  2. Players ranked in the top 500 of the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR).
  3. Event winners during the 2015 calendar year from the Northern Ohio Golf Association and the Akron District Golf Association. 
  4. 2015 Northern Ohio Golf Association club/course champions. (2014 champion eligible if the 2015 champion has not been determined by July 12, 2015) 
  5. The 2014 & 2015 winners and runners-up of the Northeast Ohio Amateur, the Ohio Amateur, and the Summit County Amateur. 
  6. 2014 & 2015 winners of the N.O.PGA Junior Championship and the N.O.PGA Kenny Novak Championship. 
  7. Players ranked in the Top 5 as of July 12th, from the Player of the Year points list of the Northern Ohio Golf Association and the Akron District Golf Association. 
  8. The Tournament Committee may issue additional exemptions to golf associations and tournaments, as it deems appropriate. 

Prizes

The GCAC champion and runner-up will be awarded trophies. The top ten finishers plus ties will be awarded merchandise prizes in the following amounts: 1st Place – 0, 2nd – 0, 3rd – 0, 4th – 0, 5th – 0, 6th – 0, 7th – 0, 8th – 0, 9th – 0, 10th – . In the event of ties, a sudden death playoff will be held to determine the Champion; all other prize amounts will be split among the ties.Manakiki Golf Course
