Now that you have a body of work to show and a professional presentation, how do you find and approach galleries? This workshop helps artists develop the skills and insights they need to discover, research and approach galleries that are a good match for their work. From the practical, time consuming efforts of doing research, to being emotionally prepared for praise, sudden opportunities, criticism and rejection, this workshop covers what to do, how to do it, and what not to do. We'll also discuss some common misconceptions about galleries, and how to build positive, productive and successful business relationships. Professionalism, patience and persistence are keys to success. Bring a notebook, questions, reservations, 5 images of your current work and a list of three galleries that you think are a good fit for your work. (These materials are not for review by the workshop leader, but are to be used for reference during the workshop.)

THE INSTRUCTOR:  Terri Sisson founded LOOK in 2006, after working as a gallery director and consultant in the art field for over fifteen years. LOOK is a career advisory and public relations firm developed with the needs of contemporary artists in mind. The mission is to help artists achieve their goals as they cultivate positive and profitable alliances in the world. LOOK acts as an agent, coach and advisor, assisting clients with the knowledge and insight of experienced art professionals. Terri is a persuasive advocate for the arts, and works in collaboration with clients to creatively present and promote individual artists, exhibitions or the unique identity of a gallery seeking a larger audience. She has extensive management and public relations experience that she uses to thoughtfully guide her clients. Terri graduated magna cum laude from the University of Michigan, majoring in fine art. She interned with the British photographer Ken Baird on a Guggenheim Fellowship project, and spent several years working professionally in photography and film before she began writing and consulting for galleries in New York.
