Birmingham magazine, a publication owned by Alabama Media Group, won a national award for best redesign of a magazine at the 28th Annual National City and Regional Magazine Awards announced May 20 at the annual CRMA conference in Atlanta, GA.
The redesign of Birmingham magazine, which first published in December 1961, first appeared in January 2012 after The Birmingham News purchased the magazine from the Birmingham Business Alliance. The redesign team included Birminghams Big Communications, and others on the magazine staff, including managing editor Carla Jean Whitley.
Other finalists in the redesign category were D Magazine, Philadelphia Magazine, San Antonio Magazine and Washingtonian.
“We are so excited about this recognition,” said Julie Keith, editor of Birmingham magazine and director of magazines for Alabama Media Group. “Birmingham magazine has been a finalist in the CRMA competition before, when we were selected for General Excellence in 2012. But this is our first year to win and we are thrilled, particularly when you look at the caliber of the publications that were finalists for Best Redesign this year.”
