Blog class in Sydney: blogging for business
Event on 2013-05-31 10:00:00

How to start a free blog and make it successful

In this blog class, you'll  learn the essentials:

– an introduction to blogging software and how to start your own blog

– who's blogging well and what you can learn from them

– the kinds of things you can write about (that people want to read)

– what a blog can do for your professional profile or business (large or small)

– the inspiration to start a blog (or develop one you've already started)

– different ways of thinking about blogs (it's not just about writing*)

This blog course is for

– people who want to make their mark on the world

– people with a project or passion they want to further

– small and large businesses that genuinely want to help other people

Blogging can also help you

– get up in google searches (both your content and your personal brand)

– build credibility in the field you want to succeed in (and value in your name)

– project the professional profile you want

– start your own website for free

We provide

– the inspiration to get you started (or use your existing blog more effectively)

– examples of best practice

– the key info you really need

– learning resources to take away

– videos you can review later (which help explain how to do it)

Think you're not a great writer?

Being able to write helps with blogs, but you don't have to be a brilliant writer. Some very successful blogs use photos or videos or audio rather than heaps of words.

About the instructor

I won't snow you under with geek speak. The thing that sets me apart from other trainers is my ability to put it in plain English, to make the course lively and inspirational, and to underpin it with solid business thinking. This comes from both nurture and nature. Here's more about my background …

My experience is a mix of working in leading ad agencies (including The Campaign Palace), teaching marketing communication at university (I set up the advertising course at Charles Sturt Uni), and running my own blogs since 2008. All up I've had 12 years in the media industry, 12 years teaching at uni, and the last 5 years in new media.

I've worked on a range of clients – from a large hotel chain (Rydges) and packaged goods (Oil of Ulan), to charities (Outward Bound), small businesses, creative projects and social change campaigns. With everything from large to zero marketing budgets.
