Fellow Track Parents, Coaches, and Youth Sports Enthusiasts, With the start of training just weeks away, I want to share several things…please pass along to a few million of your closest friends… 1)  DONE DEAL…the USA Track & Field Junior Olympics National Qualifier is set for July 9-12 at Palm Beach Gardens DWYER HS. With Junior Olympics Nationals in Jacksonville this year (July 27 – Aug 2), every Florida Youth Track Club will enter our meet to try to qualify as many of their athletes as possible for Nationals.  There is no other path to qualifying for Florida athletes. The Florida Youth Chair, who visited us this week with Florida's Master Track Official, estimates 1700 athletes will compete at the National Qualifier, bringing 4000 people to our area.  Thanks to the Palm Beach County Sports Commission, the County School Board, the Dwyer Principal and AD, and many others who have supported the cause in bringing this major Youth Track event here. As host club, BTA (Behind The Athlete Track Club) will need many volunteers to make the event a success.  We will staff concessions, clean bathrooms, give directions, clean up, and so on.  Coach Johnson has already purchased a toilet brush for me, isn't he kind!?! 2)  TRAINING DATES for BTA (ages 7 thru 18) will commence in a few short weeks.  We're looking at the week of February 9.  Regular training will likely be Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, 530PM start time, done between 7 and 730PM.   3)  LOCATIONS.  We have access this year to multiple sites, in both North County and in West Palm Beach.  We are likely to train at 2 locations to make it easy on parents and kids to get to training.  Specialty event training, such as Hurdles or High Jump, may each be focused on 1 location.  Coach is resolving these issues this week and next. 4)  YOUTH MEET SCHEDULE.  I am working on this now.  Taking my Holly to a first Early-Season meet in Daytona Beach February 28.  With meets starting to populate the meet calendars on CoachO, FL Milesplit, and Direct Athletics, we will soon have a full schedule.  Last year, 1 or more BTA athlete competed in 17 different meets from early March to late July (Nationals), including the Florida Middle School State Championship (May 9 this year), FLYTAF, BAYTAF, AAU Nationals, and many more.  Early season meets are mainly located in Broward and Dade Counties. Please be in touch with questions.  I'll be back to you soon with more details. Joe
