Build a Synthesiser with JavaScript and HTML5 Audio

Build a Synthesiser with JavaScript and HTML5 Audio
Event on 2013-06-29 10:00:00

Lots of fun and learning with HTML5 Audio!!

In this workshop, we'll build a synthesiser capable of generating a variety of sounds and with various controls. After the workshop, you can extend and customise it to your heart's content.

We'll look at some of the building blocks of analogue electronic synthesisers, and see how they can be replicated using the Audio API. Then we'll build them, using OscillatorNodes, AudioParams, Filter nodes and more.

It'll be a focused workshop, and fun! In each module, we'll first learn the theory, then we'll write the code needed to build the synthesiser. I'll provide some assets to help things along so we won't have to create everything in the workshop.

Afterwards, you'd be welcome to join us for lunch (not included in the price – sorry!) at a local eatery.

We're making this a small, relaxed and intimate event to aid learning and increase the fun quotient. :-) So places are limited!

What should I bring to the workshop?

You'll need a laptop with a recent version of Google Chrome, together with the editor of your choice.

What do I need to know?

You need to have basic JavaScript skills and have developed web pages with scripts.

Will we be using any MV* or other frameworks or libraries?

As there will be people attending with a range of skills, the workshop does not require the use of any frameworks or libraries. However, if you prefer, you are welcome to use your frameworks/libraries of choice.

Where can I contact the organiser with any questions?

You can send me a message using the "Contact the Organizer" box at the right. Alternatively, call me on 087 689 1951.
