You've heard about growth hacking.
But how do you actually do it?
What tools do startups use to drive traffic, grow users, and convert them into revenue-paying customers?
In this class, we move farther down the sales funnel. We focus on turning leads into paying customers. We talk about the practicalities of becoming ramen profitable.
We learn the practice of online marketing and advertising. How can we use tools like Kissmetrics, Mixpanel, Google Analytics, Optimize.ly, and Mouseflow to analyze user behaviour and time-on-site? We go behind the scenes into the creepy/magic zone and examine the tools savvy startups use to understand their users.
We take a side trip into the world of accounting. What's the difference between cash-basis and accrual-basis accounting? When do we recognize revenue? We learn the difference between an income statement and a statement of cash flows. What's a run rate? How does all this form part of your business model?
We spend a few minutes walking on the wild side: we examine the basis for modern economies, visit the critiques offered by moneyasdebt.net, and consider the future of money, community currencies, BitCoin, and personal money.6.1 Readings and Resources
What is the JFDI Core Curriculum Program?
The Core Curriculum teaches how to build a Lean Startup the JFDI way! Designed for first-time founders and JFDI-funded teams, this course is a guided tour of high-tech entrepreneurship. We teach the language of business so you can pitch to investors with confidence. Learn from others' mistakes and pick up Silicon Valley best practices so you can get it right the first time!
Courses are taught by the same JFDI mentors who have helped JFDI investees raise .9M in funding to date. Core Curriculum seminars combine short lectures with interactive problem-solving and experiential workshops. Together, they add up to a sort of Executive MBA for Entrepreneurs.
Classes meet Thursday nights from 7pm to 10pm. Each 3-hour seminar is complemented by 1 hour of optional reading and video. Seminar fee: 0.
Can I join at any point in the cycle?
Sure, if you are interested in particular topics, you can sign up for just those seminars.
Is there a package discount?
You can attend as few or as many seminars as you would like. Of course we recommend you take the whole set, as the seminars build on one another. So if you sign up for a 12-seminar package, you will receive a 10% discount, plus three vouchers entitling you to free admission to Startup Clinics and fireside chats by JFDI mentors — a 9 value. If you miss a class, you can attend it in the next cycle for free. You can start by taking individual classes and upgrade to the package deal at any point by paying the difference.
