Community Interest Company, The Community Gateway CIC, helps Councils to Promote Telecare on line – offers Councils incentives to sign up before March 31, 2013

Birmingham, England (PRWEB UK) 31 January 2013

Expanding the customer user base is now a priority to enable other features and benefits. This offer is only valid up to March 31 and cannot be extended for any reason. Community Gateway urges councils to make contact now if there are unspent budgets this year and believe that the council needs to do more to promote Assistive Technology.

The Community Gateway CIC has helped a number of councils nationally to make better use of Telecare, with over 9 councils benefiting from their very own Gadget Gateway (renamed so as not to confuse with a similarly named site called AskSARA hosted by DLF which bares no relationship). Helping many more to improving process, contracts, and review and assessments to maximize the use of Telecare, in place of care where its appropriate and safe. Often Assistive Technology can be better for the Service User whether it substitutes or complements an existing service. Community Gateway can also show how this helps strengthen Home Care providers’ offers too in a tough and changing market.

As a Social Enterprise Community Gateway reinvested the profits made in 2010/ 2011 in to an online web site to promote Telecare solutions, helped by investment from Improvement Efficiency West Midlands. The development of the site would not have been possible without the effort and time of forward thinking people working for councils on Telecare, with exceptional support in particular from: Paul Davies (Director, Walsall Council), Jim Ellam, Commissioner, Staffordshire County Council (BETA SITE), Marie Spittle (Dudley Council), Dave Andrews (BETA SITE – Worcestershire Council), Suzanne Cash (Wolverhampton Council) and Mike Glynn (Solihull Council). Some aspects of the council sites are in BETA development (depending on owning organisations availability of local data), but it represents a significant step forward from static web pages with no real product information such as pictures, descriptions, videos and importantly ratings and reviews which Gadget Gateway has now made possible.

There is a great deal more that can be done however and expanding the user base now is a priority which enables Community Gateway to offer and expand the list of features and benefits. Community Gateway is looking through partnership with appropriate organisations to offer assessment at the front end, and to integrate the electronic information with other portals, potentially bringing Telecare product information to the TV room.

There is also good coverage elsewhere on this service using its earlier name on Emerald Journal of Assistive Technology, NHS Local and Health Services Journal.
