Creative Power: Professional Development Training
Event on 2015-04-11 09:00:00
Need to get recharged? On the search for some guidance when it comes to marketing your work, writing grants, developing a portfolio, and working with a budget from an artist’s perspective?
Well, by all means, let’s get connected In April, Arts Rapid City will kick off Creative Power, a series of workshops/talks/classes to empower local artists and creative professionals. We’ll put you in touch with a range of professionals on subjects geared toward giving you guidance to help you succeed as a “working artist.”
We’re starting off with a bang, partnering with First Peoples Fund on April 11 with a Professional Development Workshop. This in-depth training will be all day Saturday 9 am – 5 pm and stems from First Peoples Fund’s award-winning curriculum designed especially for emerging visual artists (however, all are invited to attend). The day will include:
- A deeper look into the values and vision behind your work
- Career planning tools for success
- Calendars and timelines to best prepare for shows and exhibits
- How to price your work and plan a budget unique to your needs
- Marketing tools for promoting your work with a discussion on resumes, portfolios, online marketing, and social networking
As a bonus, Steve Babbitt, fine art photographer and photography professor at Black Hills State University, will cap off the day, leading hands-on instruction on capturing images of your artwork so you will feel confident in photographing your work for professional use!
The workshop fee is for the full day and also includes lunch and a training curriculum book that goes beyond the day’s topics.
Happy thanks to the Rapid City Arts Council for generously donating space for this first workshop!
