Hear senior level marketing executives share their thoughts in a panel discussion moderated by Brice Campbell, Executive in Residence, Temerlin Advertising Institute, Southern Methodist University.

About the panelists and moderator:

Tim Hale – Senior VP Design Management at Fossil Inc. – Motivated by desire to grow as a designer, Tim Hale moved to Dallas in 1985 and started an in-house design and production studio for an embroidery specialty manufacturer. In 1987 Tim joined Fossil to start and head up the in-house design department. The relationship that followed has been a success story on many fronts. Most importantly, the now 19 year relationship, has shown the tremendous results that can be realized when design is used in harmony with business to achieve strategic goals.


Michael Guillory – Worldwide Brand and Communications, DLP Products at Texas Instruments

Michael Guillory directs Worldwide Corporate Brand Communications for Texas Instruments. His responsibilities span multiple disciplines of communications for North America, Asia, Europe and Japan including brand materials/advertising, corporate messaging, worldwide events and tradeshows and management of TI’s video studios. Mr. Guillory has over 25 years of comprehensive marketing experience and has spearheaded global innovation marketing initiatives for the AV industry (3D technology, solid-state illumination, Pico projection, Digital Cinema), Automotive (HUD systems and infotainment) and the software industry (B2B and speech recognition applications).

Prior to Texas Instruments, Michael led the brand and marketing teams at Philips Electronics and Sage Software. He is a frequent presenter for the American Marketing Association and numerous technology industry events. Mr. Guillory holds a BBS in Marketing from Oklahoma State University.


Julie M. Cary
- Executive Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer
at La Quinta Inns and Suites – Ms. Cary joined La Quinta in 2006 and oversees the Company's marketing initiatives, planning and analysis. She has more than 22-years of increasing responsibility in brand management, marketing and innovation with consumer companies such as Brinker International, Dean Foods, Gerber Products Company and Ralston Purina. Ms. Cary holds a M.B.A. from Washington University and a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Illinois.


Toby Purdy – Chief Marketing Officer at Freeman

Toby has used his expertise and depth of knowledge in the marketing field to enhance Freeman and produce measureable results. As chief marketing officer for Freeman, Toby oversees operational and strategic areas including external offline and online marketing, products and services development, customer insight, industry relations, corporate communications and public relations.

Prior to joining Freeman, Toby served as chief marketing officer for Greyhound Lines, leading the brand revitalization program that translated into significant improvements in Greyhound's financial performance. He also served as senior vice president of marketing and business development for Dean Branded Food Group, North America's largest dairy company.

Toby continues to be active in both industry-related organizations and within the community. He currently serves on the Exhibition Industry Foundation (EIF) board of trustees, and is a past member of the board of the Dallas division of the March of Dimes.

Toby holds a bachelor's degree in finance and marketing from the University of California at Berkeley and a master's degree in business administration from Clark Atlanta University School of Business.



Brice Campbell, Executive in Residence, Temerlin Advertising Institute, Southern Methodist University and DFW AMA Board member – EVP Strategy and Special Projects.

Brice currently teaches both Account Planning and Campaigns, the capstone class in the Temerlin Advertising Institute curriculum. In addition, he serves as the Faculty Advisor for the SMU chapter of the American Advertising Federation. Brice is a seasoned executive with 30 years of experience in domestic and global marketing and advertising for corporate marketing departments and advertising agencies. He has guided successful advertising campaigns for companies including BMW, Ericsson, Continental Airlines, Fujitsu, JC Penney, Curves and Cellular One.
