Event on 2012-09-14 21:00:00
Toronto-based Elmer Ferrer is one of the most versatile and prolific Session Musicians from Cuba. He has toured the world and recorded with many of Cuba's greatest artists and bands. His recording credits comprise more than 60 CDs, including two Latin Grammy nominee albums and an Oscar nominated movie soundtrack. Also an awarded music composer and producer, Ferrer has a prominent career as a solo performer and he is considered to rank among the best guitarists in the world. He has toured internationally with his own Elmer Ferrer Band, and offered Guitar Workshops, Clinics and Master Classes at international events. The Elmer Ferrer Band has opened concerts for Keb Mo, Johnny Lang, Bonnie Raitt, Van Morrison, Kid Rock, the Chris Duarte Group, Los Lobos, and the Derek Trucks Band.
Elmer Ferrer “started out as a classical guitarist and still carries that command of technique into his blend of Latin rhythms, jazz, blues and exuberant Hendrix-esque rock”(1). Known for his round, juicy tone, his intense soulful soloing, and his daring improvisational style, Elmer’s signature fusion music has been called "an advanced mix of Cuban jazz with electric blues"(2), and has brought him international acclaim as one of the strongest voices in today’s world of modern guitar music.
Toronto's legendary Dominion on Queen is presenting the live music of the Elmer Ferrer Band on the second Friday every month. The Band plays a first set from 9:00 to 10:00 pm, and a second one from 10:30 to 11:30, that no rarely extends to midnight, since every time there are a number of musicians guest, joining the band on improvised talent-packed jams. Some of the finest artists that have shared these nights with the EFB are Roberto Occhipinti (Bass), Luis Deniz (Sax), Roberto Riveron (Bass), Rob Christian (Sax), Eddie Bullen (Piano), and Andrew Stewart (Bass).
