On April 8, award winning social media agency fishbat, Inc. responds to an article on KULR 8 expressing its support of April being National Distracted Diving Awareness Month.
According to the article, using a cell phone is probably the most visible kind of distracted driving. While its hard to obtain data on how many crashes were directly caused by texting while driving, the article says that studies do show texting can increase the risk of fatal accidents.
Justin Maas, Vice President of Client Relations for social media agency fishbat, Inc. says, Although, as humans, we are constantly connected to technology and social media, we have to realize the dangers of our actions to ourselves and others. Texting while driving is a serious issue and it impacts many lives. That Facebook update can wait; dont text and drive.
Maas adds that adults actually text while driving more than teens. Researchers found that about 50 percent of adults admit to texting while driving, compared to only 43 percent for teens, Maas adds. Adults also have to be aware of the dangers of texting while driving not only from young people, but their very own peers.
There is a time and place for everything, but engaging in social media or texting while driving is not one of them, says Maas. He says fishbat supports the efforts of organizations like the Texting Awareness Foundation, which informs and educates people on the dangers of texting while driving year round. The foundation has been using its website and other forms of social media to bring much-needed awareness. The foundation also hosts live public speeches at high schools.
