On March 31, social media agency fishbat, Inc. releases a statement following a Mashable article by Kris Holt regarding the new social media app Fire Me!, which is supposed to help employees avoid sending out negative tweets that could get them fired.
According to the Mashable article, if youve ever said anything bad about your boss on Twitter, the new app called FireMe! might just send you a tweet. The tool was created by Ricardo Kawase and his team at the University of Hannover in Germany. FireMe! tracks certain negative phrases about bosses and jobs, and will then rate how likely the comment will be to getting the poster fired.
The article states that, When FireMe! flags such a tweet, it automatically sends another tweet to the user in question, reading something like, “Can you imagine if your boss gets to know that you said: ‘I hate my job so much’. You said that on Twitter and the whole world can see it!” The offending user is sent a link to the FireMeter! score, which displays how likely it is that the user will be fired. While the score might be just for fun, it weighs in on helping people watch what they tweet.
The article goes on to mention that users are given the option to delete their tweet, reporting that out of 4,304 warnings sent over three weeks, 249 people deleted their messages. Kawases team found that people tended to send out more negative tweets about their jobs than positive ones.
