The 2012 recipients of the ONE Ford Elite Dealer recognition honor gathered recently at The Breakers in Palm Beach, Florida to be acknowledged and thanked by Ford Motor Company, CEO Alan Mulally, and other senior executives for their outstanding 2012 performance. This marks the 8th consecutive year that Lombard Ford, Inc. has earned the Premier Club ESP Award and the 3rd year in a row, since its inception, to receive the ONE Ford Elite Dealer Recognition honor.
This year when the third invitation to attend this most prestigious event hosted by Ford arrived in the mail owner Rob Lombard looked back on his career in the automotive industry. He thought back to the day when he first bought the dealership in 1982, at the time becoming the youngest Ford dealer ever appointed without inheriting the business from family. He spoke about what he had seen and experienced over the past 31 years, since becoming the owner of Lombard Ford, Inc. in small town USA.
Lombard Ford, Inc. is located in Northwestern Connecticut. A long time employee named Jack often jokes with Rob about the many Ford ESP achievement awards the store has earned over the years. He says it certainly is not because of our size or location. A joke that – sometimes size doesn’t matter.
In light of the dealership’s rural surroundings, with cows grazing on the nearby hillside, in a town with a population of less than 4,000, which no one could locate on a map without the help of Google other than perhaps the locals, Lombard Ford becomes a national sales leader of Ford ESP, the extended warranty backed by Ford Motor Company. To emphasize the point that sometimes size doesn’t matter, in 2010 and 2011, the only dealer who sold more Ford ESP coverage than Lombard Ford was the largest Ford dealer in the world.
Rob spoke about the many challenges a small business faces in this industry such as, the up and down economic business cycles, the increased foreign product competition, the new technology and innovations pioneered by Ford and the unintended consequences to small businesses from enacted government programs and regulations. However, through it all, he still remains a car guy with a love for Ford Mustangs. His favorite is his 1969 Mustang Boss 429 in Jade Green, which was written up in an Automotive Quarterly, a hard bound book written about rare vehicles worldwide.
If asked, what drives the team at Lombard Ford? Rob would answer, “It is our commitment to excellence”. And their customers experience this each business day, as they have consistently scored the dealership high in both sales and service satisfaction. In 2002, Lombard Ford began an online endeavor to bring their high level of customer service, satisfaction and value to Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicle owners throughout the U.S. who were searching online for an extended warranty.
Remembering the horror stories about consumers who bought non-manufacturer backed third party extended warranties online, from companies who either went bankrupt or continuously found ways to deny claims, gave rise and motivation to the idea of offering the online shopper an alternative. They could now purchase a Ford backed extended warranty coverage at a good deal and avoid the pitfall so many others had experienced.
Lombard Ford has successfully provided the online Ford, Lincoln and Mercury consumer with genuine Ford ESP protection, as an alternative to buying a third party backed coverage. So not only has the consumer been spared the potential hassles and heartaches of dealing with a third party company when they have a repair claim, but by company calculations the savings they have provided exceeds $ 10,000,000.
Lombard Ford offers the online consumer a terrific value, along with excellent customer service, both during and after the sale. This commitment to excellence brought them to the top, making them the online sales leader of genuine Ford ESP. The dedicated, knowledgeable and courteous staff is grateful and appreciative for the business and loyalty of each customer and look forward to serving the online community for years to come.
