How Will Googles Hummingbird Update Impact Law Firm Websites? Blogger Takes a Close Look

Raleigh, N.C. (PRWEB) October 19, 2013

Law firms will need to closely link their online content and Social Media efforts in order to keep pace with Googles latest search algorithm change, Andrew Miller of the SEO team writes in a new blog article.

Miller, an Outreach Specialist/Strategist with, wrote the article in reaction to the Hummingbird algorithm update that Google announced on September 26 in a press conference held in the Menlo Park, California, garage where the company started 15 years ago.

In the October 8 article on the companys blog, How to Hum to the Tune of Googles Hummingbird Algorithm, Miller explains that the update marks an attempt by Google to respond to the more conversational and complex way in which people search for information, goods and services when they speak their queries into phones.

Googles search results and rankings will increasingly reflect the entire conversation or meaning of a search rather than the match of a few key terms, according to Miller.

When Google initially announced the new Hummingbird algorithm update, they demonstrated the search on a mobile device instead of on a desktop, Miller writes. This was no accident. The future of search is moving towards an increase in mobile usage.

As Miller explains, the Hummingbird update will allow Google to more broadly apply its Knowledge Graph, which describes as an encyclopedia of 570 million concepts and relationships among them.

Quoting Googles Senior Vice President of Search, Amit Singhai, Miller says the Hummingbird update could impact 90 percent of search results including searches for legal services.

However, Miller says, the update doesnt change much in regards to standard white-hat SEO practices. In the article, he goes on to explain that the update simply means that integrating content and Social Media strategies will be as important as ever.

He notes that Google ranking factors include social signals, author authority and content relevancy.

Above all, content drives the Internet, Miller writes. It is imperative that every article written, both onsite and off, is directly relevant to your audience, and that it positively contributes to the Internet as a whole.
