Willy Porter

"How To Rob A Bank," the latest release from esteemed guitarist/singer-songwriter Willy Porter, showcases his continued growth as a songwriter and recording artist. Porter offers a rich blend of salt and sugar with tracks that move easily from rough-hewn electric edges into soulful irony with equal aplomb. Jeff Giles of Popdose.com says, "It's another solid entry in a discography full of them, and one of the smarter, more durable albums of grown-up music we're likely to get this year."

Having toured with artists as diverse as Jeff Beck and Tori Amos, Porter capitalizes on his experience as a seasoned live performer on How To Rob A Bank. World-renowned guitarist Greg Koch had this to say about Porter's new disc: "you get the same feeling listening to it as you do from one of his solo gig's…that you are in the presence of greatness…" Each song is a fresh cross-pollination of styles, genres and musical forms. Frets Magazine called Porter "a genre-defying maverick." He continues on that path as he easily transitions from the light-hearted McCartney-esque "Lemon Tree" into "I Didn't Bring it Up," in which Porter wryly declares he "checked the oil and cleared the gutters" of mid-life marriage. In the electric guitar driven "Hard Place" he digs into three generations of an American soldier's perspective. The rest of the album includes flavors of New Orleans ("Wide Open Mind"), The Band ("Psychic Vampire") and post-bluegrass country ("Barefoot Reel").

Willy Porter "…has crafted some of his most irresistibly tuneful songs yet." (Shepherd Express) In his most recent offering on Weasel Records "Porter [is] at the top of his game, working off his creative debt to Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan," (Dave Tianen – Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel)

"Porter is a dazzling acoustic guitarist with a moody baritone…" -The Washington Post

"Willy Porter captures the street corner ethic of acoustic performance perfectly." -The Village Voice

"Willy Porter is a relaxed and fearless performer who'll entertain you as well as move you." -Acoustic Guitar Magazine

Garnet Rogers

In a darkened bedroom, lit only be the amber glow from an old floor model radio, two young brothers aged 6 and 12 lay in their beds, listening to the country music broadcasts from the Grand Ol’ Opry, and practiced their harmonies. Two years later, the youngest one was playing the definitive 8-year-old’s version of “Desolation Row” on his ukulele. He soon abandoned that instrument to teach himself the flute, violin and guitar.

Within ten years, and barely out of high school, Garnet Rogers was on the road as a full- time working musician with his older brother Stan. Together they formed what has come to be accepted as one of the most influential acts in North American folk music.

Since then, Garnet Rogers has established himself as ‘One of the major talents of our time”. Hailed by the Boston Globe as a “charismatic performer and singer”, Garnet is a man with a powerful physical presence – close to six and a half feet tall – with a voice to match. With his “smooth, dark baritone” (Washington Post) his incredible range, and thoughtful, dramatic phrasing, Garnet is widely considered by fans and critics alike to be one of the finest singers anywhere. His music, like the man himself, is literate, passionate, highly sensitive, and deeply purposeful. Cinematic in detail, his songs “give expression to the unspoken vocabulary of the heart” (Kitchener Waterloo Record). An optimist at heart, Garnet sings extraordinary songs about people who are not obvious heroes and of the small victories of the everyday. As memorable as his songs, his over-the-top humour and lightning-quick wit moves his audience from tears to laughter and back again.

“Garnet Rogers is capable of awe-inspiring and unpredictable stuff – and that includes more than just music”

Resolutely independent, Garnet Rogers has turned down offers from major labels to do his music his own way.

That 1 Guy

With an extensive and amazing track record of unique and imaginative performances featuringhis curious instrument and copious amounts of originality, Mike Silverman aka That1Guy has set himself apart as a true one-of-a-kind talent that rivals any other artist currently in the entertainment industry. Averaging 150-200 shows a year all over North America and Canada, he has been a consistent favorite at such festivals as: Wakarusa, Electric Forest, Big Day out, All Good, Bella, High Sierra, Summer Meltdown, Montreal Jazz Festival, and many more. He was also the ʻTap Water Awardʼ winner at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for best musical act. His legendary collaboration and multiple tours with Buckethead as The Frankenstein Brothers has further cemented his virtuoso story as a creative visionary as well.

His innovation continues to soar with the announcement of a new tour, That1Guy & The Magic Pipe Present: An Evening of Musical Magical Wonder… The Likes of Which Ye Haven't Yet Seen, kicking off in the early spring of 2013. Along with his pioneering main instrument, The Magic Pipe, a monstrosity of metal, strings, and electronics, facilitates the dynamic live creation of music and magic in ways only That1Guy can conjure, expect to see magic as well now integrated into the already clever performance. With this addition of incorporating magic seamlessly into his live shows, he has legitimately achieved an all inclusive audio/visual performance unlike anything experienced before. "So much of my music has miraculous qualities to it because itʼs hard to tell whatʼs going on. There are lots of slights of hand and sonic misdirection. It feels like I was meant to do magic".

Silvermanʼ s backstory is very similar to many musicians that have come before him. He grew up a self proclaimed music geek, soaked in the influence of his jazz musician father, and enrolled in San Francisco Conservatory of Music before joining the local jazz scene himself as a sought-after percussive bassist.  His influential and innovative double bass style eventually evolved into what we see today as That1Guy and ʻ The Magic Pipeʼ .

As his story continues to develop, Billboard has famously noted, "In the case of Mike Silvermanʼ s slamming, futuristic funk act… the normal rules of biology just donʼ t apply." In addition, Silverman also has promised new music and videos for the early part of 2013 that will only further validate his status as an industry trailblazer. "I like being my own person", he says. "I didnʼt set out to be a weirdo but Iʼm starting to embrace it".Ultimately, his motivation can be encapsulated as this: "Human beings do our best work when weʼre challenged and pushed up against the wall". He further explains, "By nature, weʼre hunters and gathers, spending each day looking for their next meal. Itʼs easy to be lazy when you donʼt have to come up with something creative right away."

Richard Shindell

Richard Shindell is a meticulous craftsman of song whose eight studio albums and 2 live recordings have been revered by critics and fans alike. Innovative, original and occasionally spiritual, Shindell's songs weave tales that interchangeably champion the downtrodden, exalt the disaffected or wax empathetic to those lost to society's fringes. Shindell's songwriting is truly eclectic, ranging from lighthearted ballads and adulterous love songs, to dirges and diatribes that skillfully skewer politics, prejudice, war and religion. He has a unique ability to morph into the soul of the many and varied personalities he casts as narrators in certain songs–songs that are veritable novellas framed in haunting acoustic melodies, sometimes including cryptic, revelations through the eyes of a woman. With each successive record, Shindell toured relentlessly, and built a solid following of loyal fans. In 1997, he was invited to join Joan Baez on tour and opened the eyes and ears of a new segment of folk music enthusiasts to his talents as a songwriter and performer. The new record, On Thirteen Songs You May Or May Not Have Heard Before, Richard Shindell revisits some of his best known songs with a fresh eye and new arrangements, stripping the songs down to their basic framework and rebuilding them with a more intimate feel. This new approach puts the emphasis on Shindell's stunning acoustic guitar work and expressive storytelling, with subtle instrumental support from long-time Shindell collaborators Larry Campbell, Lincoln Schleifer, Marc Shulman, Sara Milonovich, Viktor Krauss and others. This collection includes one new song called Satellites as well as songs from throughout his 20-plus year career.

Pierre Bensusan

If "World Music" is music that pays tribute to the spirit of a collection of human beings through distinct rhythms, traditional instruments and harmonic colors, French-Algerian guitarist, singer and composer Pierre Bensusan can be recognized as one of the most eloquent and diverse world musicians of our time. Born in Oran, French-Algeria, in 1957, when France was decolonizing its Empire, Pierre Bensusan's family moved to Paris when he was 4. He began formal studies on piano at the age of 7 and at 11 taught himself guitar. Influenced in those early days by the folk revival blooming in Britain, France and North America, Bensusan began first to explore his own diverse musical heritage and then moved to the horizons beyond. At 17 he signed his first recording contract, and one year later his first album Pres de Paris won the Grand Prix du Disque upon his debut at the Montreux Festival in Switzerland.

Described by the L.A. Times as "one of the most unique and brilliant acoustic guitar veterans in the world music scene today", Pierre Bensusan was voted "Best World Music Guitar Player in 2008″ by Guitar Player Magazine Readers Choice. His name became synonymous with contemporary acoustic guitar genius, long before the terms New Age, New Acoustic Music or World Music were invented. He has the ability to make a single guitar sound like an entire band as he brings the audience on a mesmerizing musical journey. And yet, Bensusan is more than what any musician or music lover expects from a guitarist. He is a composer as well as a bilingual and a brave improvisational vocalist, melding whistles and resonant low notes with something like his own scat technique. There is a sense of something both playful and serious in his work, an unparalleled sense of freedom in his compositions and his improvisations. His "manner" of playing defies classification – crossing world, classical, jazz, traditional, folk and more. None can be isolated as simply "Brazilian", "Arabic" or "French"; rather, they represent our world in its current state, a world sharing itself, fusing cultures together in ways we have never experienced. Not to be missed

What sustains a band for more than three decades? Not a hit radio band, but a roll-up-your-sleeves/drive to the next gig overnight/carry your own gear up the steps and night after night make people happy kind of band. One that makes them dance; sends them home to come back again-and again. What makes that kind band stay together through relatively few personnel changes? Answer: A good idea; a universal yet somehow unique good idea. The band was over 10 years old and had baffled the mainstream industry before the term "roots rock" was coined to explain the likes of West Coasters like Los Lobos and The Blasters. By then, the affiliation with many of the living blues greats seemed to brand The Nighthawks a "blues band," despite the fact that they played with Carl Perkins as well as Muddy Waters. The Nighthawks set off on a musical mystery tour that took them to 49 states and a dozen countries. They played with nearly all the living blues legends as well as a new generation of bands sometimes called "the Blue Wave," and released several important albums, including the best-selling Jacks and Kings with Pinetop Perkins, Luther "Guitar Junior" Johnson, Calvin Jones and Bob Margolin.

"The Nighthawks show no sign of slowing down as they enter their fifth decade as a viable force on the contemporary blues scene. All Aboard the Last Train To Bluesville and be sure to enjoy the ride!" -Nashville Blues Society

THE VESPERS
The Vespers are one of those lucky young bands that have built an extensive underground following simply through word of mouth and heavy touring. The band is uniquely made up of two sibling duos; the Cryar sisters, and the Jones brothers. The four have distinguished their sound with an arsenal of acoustic instruments and harmonies only siblings can create. Their showmanship generates a roller coaster of sight, sound, and emotion and their inherent chemistry and instrumental versatility continues to set them apart. The band has independently released two full-length records and left a reputable impression on both Americana and Christian audiences. They have toured over 30 states in their short 3 years, playing all different environments from colleges and festivals to listening rooms and theaters. The Vespers will make their first venture to the west coast this fall.

Fat Tuesday with Eric Lindell

Eric Lindell writes music that is as at home on your front porch on a summer evening as it is in a hot sweaty club on a Saturday night. It is southern soul music, infused with R&B and a touch of New Orleans funk. It is blues music, glazed with a taste of country. It is simple, heartfelt song writing; melodic guitar solos and energized live performance. Eric has been writing and recording songs for over 15 years, and is now touring behind the strength of his latest release I Still Love You. His band's rhythm section, Myles Weeks on upright bass and Will McMains on drums, have been with Eric for over three years, making their performance on I Still Love You, as well as their live shows incredibly tight and intuitive. Both players are young, but have a swing feel of much more seasoned musicians. Rounding out the band are saxophonists Brad Walker and Chris Fitzgerald, whose horn section work serves the purpose of the church choir, answering in the affirmative to the soulful vocals, giving the music the feel of a packed bar in Memphis or New Orleans, where soul music reigns supreme.

The Empresarios sound is best described as "Tropicaliente", and that is the vibe that the band brings to the stage as well. Each and every time the Empresarios take the stage; there is a lively party that forms on the dancefloor. Mixing together the warm sounds of the Caribbean comes with ease for this group of talented musicians. Band leader Javier Miranda and lead singers Frankie Rosado and Felix Perez all hail from Puerto Rico, which comes through in the band's unique blend of salsa, reggae, cumbia, dub and house. With several US tours and numerous solid releases under their belts, the Empresarios are ready to take the world by storm. A global fan base is growing with the help of the Empresarios having their album title track "Sabor Tropical" placed prominently on EA Sports' FIFA 2012 video game. Most importantly, the Empresarios aim to have fun and bring a good vibe, so grab a mojito, hit the dance floor and let their sun drenched sounds warm up your body and soul.

Official Site | Twitter | Facebook | iTunes | YouTube Nappy Riddem

Nappy Riddem are the Original Rastars. Rex Riddem, Mustafa Akbar, and Ashish "Hash" Vyas formed this ragga-soul electro-funk super group. The trio is a unique combination of longtime collaborators with independent music industry stalwarts Afrika Bambaataa, Thievery Corporation, Thunderball, Fort Knox Five and Gogogo Airheart. The three cherry picked an all-star cast of D.C. artists to record with for their debut album "One World Sovereignty". Edgy guitar riffs by Rob Myers (Thievery Corporation, Fort Knox Five, Thunderball), funky saxophone from Frank Mitchell jr. (Thievery Corporation See-I), and Rhymes from Asheru (Unspoken Heard, "Boondocks" theme song) are all included. Something special is created when the contributions of these superstars are blended with the sultry soul of Akbar's voice, Hash's dubby basslines, and Rex's funky afro-Latin percussion.

Nappy Riddem was recently nominated for a Washington Area Music Association award as 2010 best performance artist in electronica. The Nappy crew just finished 2010 playing several sold out shows, headlining the Night Fever Wax Poetics party at the Scoot Inn Austin, opening for Bassnectar at the 9:30 Club in DC, and playing the CD release party for their label mates Los Empresarios at U St. Music Hall in DC.

Fresh from playing 3 showcases during SXSW, Rex Riddem recently finished mixing down Nappy Riddem's debut album, due to be released September 2011 on Fort Knox Recordings. Their recent releases, deemed "groovy" and "awesome" by Steve Aoki, are featured on Fort Knox Recordings "The New Gold Standard 2″ compilation featuring a guest appearance by Asheru. Nappy Riddem's sound, which is affectionately called "the Riddem Method" has even traveled as far as Budapest, receiving regular airplay on Hungary's FM 90.3 as well as nationally on KEXP in NYC and Seattle.

Company Of Thieves Acoustic Tour

VIP tickets includes pre-show meet and greet, reserved seat in VIP section.

Like all great artists, Company of Thieves (Genevieve Schatz, Marc Walloch, Chris Faller, Marcin Sulewski) is full of ideas, whether the Chicago band is writing a concept album about a girl seeking independence in modern-day America or having the audacity to channel disparate influences like The Beatles, Billie Holliday, and Radiohead into its heady, catchy rock songs. It's difficult to think of a harder-working group of musicians than the skilled players who make up Company of Thieves. These guys and gal are road warriors, and there's a good chance that they've already played your town a few times. They've toured with Annuals, OK Go, and The Hold Steady, played festivals like Lollapalooza and Mountain Jam, appeared on Last Call With Carson Daly, and Schatz and Walloch were given props by the veteran players when they performed on Live From Daryl's House. And it's no surprise that their songs have struck a chord with music fans both young and old: The timeless results feature an invigorating mix of rock and pop delivered with panache and soul, propelled by Schatz's powerful pipes and Walloch's inventive, expansive guitar work. They're masters of tension and release, they know when to slow things down and when to blow it all up, and there's a good chance that they're about to become your new favorite band.

von GREY
With their soulful four-part harmonies, poetic lyrics and indelible melodies, it's easy to see why the Atlanta Journal Constitution would hail von Grey as "nothing short of stunning." They sound like they were born to play together – and, in fact, they were. The four sisters have been playing music nearly their entire lives. Classically trained from an early age, the Atlanta-based quartet – Kathryn, Annika, Fiona and Petra von Grey – have built on that foundation by performing upwards of 200 shows in the past two years, from recurring residency tours at intimate venues throughout the southeastern U.S. to supporting gigs with such artists as Sarah McLachlan. Their forthcoming five-song EP, recorded with GRAMMY® award-winning producer/engineer Nick DiDia (Bruce Springsteen, Train, The Gaslight Anthem), captures the band's essence and the raw intensity of their live performances. Working in a vein similar to that of such contemporaries as The Civil Wars and Mumford & Sons, von Grey masterfully melds folk, bluegrass and country influences, imbuing time-honored musical idioms with a distinctly modern sensibility. From the opening "What Am I," a stirring plea for unity and understanding, to the bittersweet "Shane," the collection provides a remarkable introduction to von Grey. Indeed, it's their attunement to this rhythm that makes von Grey's songs at once so personal and so universal. It's music that not only speaks to us, it speaks for us.

Lindi Ortega

Nashville beckoned, and Lindi Ortega answered the call.

Armed with an inimitable, irresistible singing voice The Independent hails as "a truly magnificent instrument," and a heart bursting with creative ambition, the Canadian songstress whom American Songwriter calls "the love child of Johnny Cash and Nancy Sinatra" decided to relocate to Music City from her native Toronto to birth her brand new musical offspring, Cigarettes & Truckstops.

A logical follow-up to her 2011 critically acclaimed alt-country masterpiece Little Red Boots, the 10-song Cigarettes & Truckstops further flaunts Ortega's distinctive vision; one that embraces the oft-neglected, politically incorrect realism of traditional country and frames it in a charmingly, and sometimes darkly humourous contemporary context.

Bookended by a couple of romantic road ballads in the title track and the reflective "Every Mile Of The Ride," Cigarettes & Truckstops further evolves the promise foreshadowed by the JUNO-Award nominated-and-Polaris-Music-Prize-long-listed Little Red Boots. The writing is stellar, her musical discipline undoubtedly galvanized by a fearless 2010-2012 tour schedule that saw Lindi open for a variety of acts, from punk vets Social Distortion; pop icon Burton Cummings; country fave Dierks Bentley; folk outfit Noah & The Whale and Academy Award winner Kevin Costner with attention-grabbing finesse, making serious inroads with North American and European audiences, and prompting Exclaim! to declare Ortega an "electrifying" performer.

Whether it's the plucky shuffle of the hilarious "The Day You Die;" the angry harrumph of "Don't Wanna Hear It;" the high lonesome feel of "Heaven Has No Vacancy" or the haunting twang of guilt that is "Murder of Crows," Ortega continues to deliver a refreshing twist that walks vintage and contemporary lines in imaginative and inventive manners. But in order to realize this next step of her artistic fruition, the two-time JUNO Award nominee (Canada's equivalent to the Grammy Awards) had to pull up her Canadian stakes and come to the well.

She recruited a sympathetic visionary to produce the album in fellow Canadian Colin Linden, (O Brother Where Art Thou, Blackie & The Rodeo Kings, Bruce Cockburn, The Band), who also happens to reside in Nashville.  There are more gems on Cigarettes & Truckstops that are ripe for personal discovery, a riveting tour-de-force of an album that will open up more ears and hearts to the scintillating sounds of Lindi Ortega and an appreciation of the unique perspective she brings to her craft. Two trademarks impel her artistry: sincerity and honesty.

HeLo CD Release Party

Washington DC based indie-rock powerhouse HeLO (pronounced he-low) released their critically acclaimed "Mercury Retrograde" EP in 2010 on the Venusiian Media Studios (VMS) label. Since that time, the band has enjoyed measurable success and industry notoriety through festival appearances, radio air-play and commercial licensure of their recorded material. Known for their incredibly tight live performances and their signature vocal harmonies, HeLO is an oasis in a desert of indie-rock and roll mediocrity. Inspired by the pop sensibilities of the Beatles, Weezer, Hot Hot Heat, Fountains Of Wayne and the rock and roll attitude of the Rolling Stones, Pixies and Jane's Addiction, HeLO brings a unique yet familiar sound to music lovers of all backgrounds.
HeLO will release their sophomore effort in December 2012 and subsequently support the record with a tour into 2013.

Local DC native, Gideon Grove, has lived most of his life involved in music. Trained classically from a very young age, Grove went on to pursue a degree in Viola Performance. While in college, Grove picked up an old guitar, taught himself to play, and started writing songs. Hooked instantly, what followed was a full-on pursuit of writing and perfecting his craft. His songs are equal parts haunting and beautiful, catchy, and can't help but leave you moved. Gideon Grove's highly anticipated record "Wildfires" was released November 13th, 2012 and within a day, was listed at #13 on the iTunes singer-songwriter album charts.

Peter Mulvey

THE GOOD STUFF, Peter Mulvey's fifteenth record, is a collection of standards which promptly rejects the accepted definition of "Standard" in favor of a more vivid, open approach. The music of Tom Waits is right there with Duke Ellington; Willie Nelson next to Thelonious Monk; Jolie Holland juxtaposed with Bill Frisell. Mulvey (along with his band, the Crumbling Beauties) address each tune with a true artist's touch. His mirthful, gravelly baritone is front and center from moment one, and every track is a master class in restraint, phrasing, and commitment. Twenty-odd years on the road, performing songs from his own catalog and from a vast, varied, and deep well of classic and obscure covers, has prepared Mulvey to deliver this collection. Night after night, the process of divining the heart of a song, being alert to where the moment can lead, has shaped him as an artist. To each rendition, he brings the soul of a singer, a light touch in a heavy world.

"The greatest pop songwriting since Billy Joel" – Livingston Taylor

MPress recording artist Seth Glier will grab you…if not with his powerful falsetto or his melodic prowess, then with what Performer Magazine calls his "intoxicating groove." The 22-year-old singer, pianist and guitarist – who abandoned studies at The Berklee College of Music after one year because he "decided I should be playing for people and not for grades" – aims straight for the gut & has quickly established himself on the national scene performing over 250 shows a year.  In 2010, Glier shared stages with such diverse artists as James Taylor, Mark Knopfler, The Verve Pipe, and Edwin McCain. He has appeared as a mainstage artist at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival (NY) and the Kerrville Folk Festival (TX). USA Today recently compared Seth to Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel and recommended his track "Lauralee" on their "Listen Up Playlist" (Feb 2011). The only musical member of his family, Seth was raised on the music of Joni Mitchell, Martin Sexton and Randy Newman, but considers his brother to be his greatest influence. "My brother is autistic and non-verbal. I learned to communicate with words better once I realized how to communicate to someone without them." Maybe the term ‘old soul' has meaning after all…

Joe Robinson

VIP tickets include reserved seat in VIP area, no lines, dedicated wait staff.

Joe Robinson plays guitar like Ali boxed, like Einstein knew theoretical physics and like Hitchcock made movies.

If the chipper twenty-year-old from backwoods Temagog, New South Wales, Australia were two or three times his age, his sheer six-string ability and compositional insight, which have already earned Robinson a world-wide following, would be no less astonishing. That fact is underscored by his winning TV‟s Australia's Got Talent in 2008, and the Australian National Songwriting Competition at the tender age of 13. But with his new album Let Me Introduce You, Robinson has made a daring quantum leap. The gifted young virtuoso has redefined himself as a budding pop-world visionary, deftly walking a tightrope between the instrumental music that‟s put him in the spotlight and a unique fusion of vocally based rock, blues, jazz, country and R&B that‟s entirely his own.

Although it seems like Robinson was born with a guitar in his hands, his first instrument was piano. Robinson truly found his calling at age 13 after meeting the Emmanuel brothers, Phil and Tommy, widely considered Australia‟s two finest guitarists. He was particularly struck by Tommy‟s dazzling acoustic finger picking technique and turned to the acoustic guitar as his primary instrument. A few years later – after Robinson had already won his first Australian National Songwriting Competition – Emmanuel introduced him to American audiences, taking him on a tour of the States that included an important stay in Nashville, Tennessee, where Robinson currently lives. On that trek he met Frank Rogers, a top Nashville producer who‟s made smash records with Brad Paisley, Darius Rucker and many others. It was the beginning of a musical partnership that continues on Let Me Introduce You and began with Robinson‟s second album, 2009‟s dazzling all-solo-acoustic Time Jumpin', the sequel to his 2007 made-in-Australia debut Birdseed. In 2008 Robinson went home at the invitation of the producers of Australia's Got Talent, handily winning the competition.

• First come, first seated The Fred Eaglesmith Traveling Steam Show

Acclaimed singer, songwriter and bandleader Fred Eaglesmith is a genuine iconoclast and true original. It's the natural result of following the cue of his musical career and now 19 albums with the January 2012 release of 6 Volts. The result is one of the most fascinating and musically rewarding careers in contemporary music. As he has doggedly gone his own way as an independent musical artist, Eaglesmith has also enjoyed such high profile rewards in recent years as having his songs covered by country superstars Toby Keith, Alan Jackson and Miranda Lambert, among many other accomplishments.

6 Volts is yet another landmark on a journey. The album takes its title from the battery that powered the game-changing transistor radio – introduced in 1954, the same year that rock'n'roll emerged into popular consciousness – and embodies the notion of back to the future. Captured live in the studio with one microphone onto a one-track reel to reel recorder like so many enduring classics, 6 Volts also bristles with contemporary urgency.By bringing the recording process all the way back home to its technologically basic origins, Eaglesmith succeeds in creating authentic and meaningful music. "There's still a certain love to it that's better than multitracking," he observes. Music doesn't get any more real than when you can't overdub, autotune, or fix it in the mix. 6 Volts opens with the memerizing life affirming track "Cemetery Road," the tragic yet loving "Katie," and the sparse and meditative "Been a Long Time." It channels the raw rock'n'roll musical truths of his youth while offering a nod of homage to his country music inspiration on "Johnny Cash." The album also draws on the spirit of the era when the transistor radio generation of musical artists and listeners keyed into the electricity of fusing rock'n'roll with country and Southern roots. "That era really felt like that was a powerful place to refer back to," Eaglesmith notes. "I did not want it to sound like, say, 1963. I wanted it to sound like a record that referenced that but was still made in 2011."

Throughout the years since his first album in 1980, Eaglesmith has usefully managed to both transcend and blend such genres and categories as rock'n'roll, country, folk, singer-songwriter, Americana, blues and bluegrass to fashion his own distinctive brand of literate, melodic and rhythmic rocking elecro-acoustic North American music. Along the way he has gathered a unique set of accomplishments: a Juno Award for Best Roots & Traditional Album, had his music used in films by Martin Scorsese, James Caan and Toby Keith, wrote a hit #1 on the bluegrass charts ("Thirty Years of Farming," recorded by James King), wowing David Letterman in his U.S. network debut in 2010, and finding his songs included in the curriculum at two colleges. His followers are so devoted that he is the host and centerpiece of a number of music festivals in the U.S. and Canada. He also inspired the Roots on the Rails rolling music fests and hosts its excursions on scenic railways as well as, last year, at sea. When not writing recording and performing music, Eaglesmith creates visual art that is exhibited in commercial galleries and museums. In addition to having his compositions featured on best-selling albums by country singers and writers themselves like Keith ("White Rose"), Jackson ("Freight Train") and Lambert ("Time To Get A Gun"), such fellow songwriting talents as The Cowboy Junkies, Chris Knight, Kasey Chambers, Mary Gauthier, Todd Snider and Dar Williams have all recorded Eaglesmith songs.

These days Eaglesmith is in motion most of the year from show to show in a school bus and RV that have been converted to run on both gas and used cooking oil they get from restaurants and diners along the way. The troupe pulls into campgrounds, RV parks, truckstops and WalMart parking lots to spend the night rather than in hotels, and cooks up their own feasts in the morning for breakfast. "Times are hard and things are tough for people, and we shouldn't be riding in busses that look like bachelor apartments," he states. As a result, "It makes me sound like the truth when I'm up there singing because it is the truth." It's all part and parcel of his mission of delivering a memorable and moving entertainment experience for the masses with his band, the Traveling Steam Show. In the final analysis, it's a simple equation. "We just play rock'n'roll," Eaglesmith asserts. And in the process deliver music based on passion and truth, with an emotional union and a shared sense of fun. "The root of it all is my little bit of creativity, that little ball of fire inside me. I just do what feels like the truth to me. And when it feels like the truth it's really not that hard to do or hard to listen to. Eaglesmith concludes. So he's happily left with a decision made long ago that he continues to follow that delivers essential affirmation with every step of life he takes. "I'm gonna play good, sing good, write good and act good."

BLACK PRAIRIE
On Black Prairie's debut, Feast of the Hunters' Moon, listeners caught an introduction to the broad musical inclinations of Decemberists members Chris Funk, Nate Query and Jenny Conlee and fellow Portland musicians Annalisa Tornfelt and Jon Neufeld, classic instrumental string-band tones mixing with the vibrant bounce of Romani music and bursts of Tornfelt vocal-led pop.Funk and Query initially hatched the idea for Black Prairie as a way to explore instrumental string band music during Decemberists downtime, and those beginnings aren't absent on A Tear in the Eye. But the growth from idea into five-part whole is immediately present, as Tornfelt's sweetly harmonied pop takes more of the foreground, and the band digs deeper into the traditions studied on their debut. One inclination all five members share: a desire and willingness to produce in-the-moment, fully alive music, free of the hyper-polishing and retouching that can blunt a recording's humanity. The band tracked A Tear in the Eye with Hunters' Moon producer Tucker Martine (The Decemberists, Death Cab for Cutie), start to finish, over the course of 10 days, eschewing hemming and hawing for energy and experimentation. As musicians, the members of Black Prairie have been keeping plenty busy beyond working on A Tear in the Eye and with their other bands, too. In early 2012, the band paired with the Oregon Children's Theatre, composing music for the play The Storm in the Barn. For 2012's Record Store Day in April, they issued a limited-edition 7-inch record featuring collaborations with The Shins' James Mercer and Sallie Ford of Sallie Ford and The Sound Outside.

Kris Allen

VIP TICKETS – M&G

Since skyrocketing to stardom as the winner of the 2009 season of American Idol, Kris Allen has enjoyed five singles on the Billboard charts. His self-titled debut album featured his hit single "Live Like We're Dying" which has a combined digital sales of over 1.7 million.

On his new album THANK YOU CAMELLIA, Kris Allen delivers on everything his fans love him for and more. The album is a showcase for the easy, lived-in richness of Kris' voice as well as his knack for crafting hook-filled pop melodies and writing heartfelt lyrics that explore the ups and downs of love. For THANK YOU CAMELLIA, Kris has cranked everything up a notch by co-writing every song and being heavily involved throughout each stage of the writing, recording, and production process.

Helping those sentiments go down easy is THANK YOU CAMELLIA's big pop-rock sound, which he achieved with the help of his producers, former Sugarcult singer Tim Pagnotta (who has also worked with Neon Trees); Curt Schneider (Augustana, Five for Fighting); and Nasri & Adam Messinger, known as The Messengers (Justin Bieber, Chris Brown). "I think we go to a lot of different places sonically," Kris says. "'Out Alive' sounds really huge to me, ‘My Weakness' has a reggae feel. There are some airy guitars, some cool percussive sounds, and poppy background vocals that were really fun to do. It's an upbeat record, but it also makes you think a little."

As an artist who is constantly on the road (he toured for a year and a half behind his debut album, playing headlining shows as well as opening for Keith Urban, Maroon 5, Barenaked Ladies, and Lifehouse), Kris put a lot of thought into how the songs would go over onstage. I like the idea of people's reaction going from ‘Who is this guy' to ‘I love this guy!'"  Having already performed some of the album's songs live, Kris is gratified by the early response from fans to THANK YOU CAMELLIA, whose title is inspired by supportive friends he stays with in L.A. who live on a street called Camellia. "The reaction has been really good," he says. "Even my buddy who is very honest with me said, ‘I liked your last record, but this one is even better. The songs are deeper. It feels exactly like you.' He's known me for ten years, so that was good to hear."

The Almost

The Almost's second album for Tooth & Nail /Virgin Records began taking shape just as soon as the band came off the road after touring for their 2007 debut, Southern Weather, includin g a stint on that summer's Warped tour. That album, which debuted at #39 on Billboard's Top 200, earned them a Top 10 single at Alternative radio, and a spot on MTV's Discover & Download, was essentially the work of a single individual-Underoath drummer Aaron Gillespie, who wrote all the songs, played all the instruments and then recruited a band to play them live, starting with fellow Floridian Jay Vilardi, a veteran of several well-known area bands like Metal Blade's Phoenix Mourning and Orland-based Hand to Hand.

The now thoroughly road-tested band was intent to make their latest a completely collaborative effort, melding their talents into a whole that was more than the sum of its individual parts. The process began with Vilardi, Redmon and Aponte e-mailing files back and forth to Gillespie, who was busy penning lyrics and coming up with musical ideas of his own while touring with Underoath, before all four of them got together in the studio to jam and work out the arrangements. It was a system that resulted in a powerfully cohesive album that melds their diverse songwriting skills, from the thudding, Raw Power-like stomp of the title track and "Young Again," to the stark acoustic blues and closing psychedelic jam of "Monster," the techno-rock laced with tribal drums of "Books and Books" and the melodic Coldplay/U2/Kings of Leon arena-rock anthem, "Hands."

The guys also enlisted the help of steel guitarists Chris Scruggs (grandson of bluegrass legend Earl Scruggs) and John Davis (Superdrag vocalist/guitarist) while in the studio. Both Scrugg and Davis helped they guys broaden their musical pallets on a few tracks like "West" and "Hand Grenade." Gillespie says the songs are about the dark side of the human condition, battling your demons to come out the other side, starting with the album's title. That catharsis comes across loud and clear in the final song on the album, dubbed "Monster," which starts with Gillespie alone, accompanied by a single dobro. "Learning how to see/In this weird change of space/I'm learning to believe in this life… I feel you helping me." The song builds until, about two-thirds of the way through, the rest of The Almost come in, embarking on a spontaneous acid-soaked jam, recorded live, that provides the ultimate release.

With the addition of drummer Joe Musten (Gillespie played all the drums on the album), The Almost is ready to hit the road and do what they do best, play for their increasing fan base around the country.

ALL GET OUT
The road is family-the disciplining father, the nurturing mother; exist as shadows at each stop to any band betrothed to relentless touring without a safety net. With miles behind and miles ahead, life in a van will change a band; and All Get Out are no exception. From the wasted days stranded, to the desolate moments of doubt, to the nights where immortality stretches through bended notes, two-hundred and fifty shows a year has shaped the band known for their attitude and angst on display through high woven volume into a refined framework fusing gambled moments and glossy catchiness. In 2007 the foursome from Charleston, SC found themselves with two EPs, stumbling into regular weekend tours of the South. Soon three days became a month and a month became six. A play-anywhere-for-anyone ethic kept All Get Out on tour for three years. A loyal fan base that has been equally enamored and entertained with their big ditch, bigger valley sound has grown with them, anticipating when the band would enter the studio again. Acting as a centerpiece to an album with running themes, the title track for The Season puts all the moments that have shaped the members square into the light. "While touring is fun and a dream, there were times where all of us wanted a wall to punch and cry and wished we were home, or had a home." Hussey explains. Writing in the moment, truly unfiltered, each verse displays specific moments of disarray the band found themselves in: broken friendships, fights, and empty wallets. In the end The Season is about moving past it all so you can keep on driving.

We all met while living in Hamilton a ways back, and while we've been playing music together for five years, we've been playing softball together for six. Since we released Jackson Square, we've moved from residing primarily in Hamilton to residing primarily in our van. That explains why it's so messy. While touring the aforementioned Jackson Square, we have had the opportunity to play a smattering of shows, tours and festivals with lots of bands we love and never thought we would get to play with – Metric, Pearl Jam, Girl Talk, Tokyo Police Club, Them Crooked Vultures, Wintersleep, and the Starland Vocal Band. Because some of these shows took us places we don't normally go, we also had the opportunity to eat places we've never been before. Places like Pizza Uno, In-and-Out Burger (Tim's favourite), Noodle Box (Max's favourite), and a really good Cajun restaurant called Hot Belly Mama's.

We all love playing live, so we toured Jackson Square for a really long time. So long in fact, that we've already played most of the songs on the new record live at some point. You still have to promise us you'll act surprised when you hear them. This winter, after a couple months of pre-production and tour decompression, we all headed up to the Bathouse Studios in Kingston and bore down. Dan put on his producer hat, Tim put on his engineer hat, and Mike put on his chef's hat (because you still gotta eat). We spent two fortnights tracking the songs and in the process we got to play with gated snare drums, a Juno-D synthesizer, and a nifty little effects processor called the Eventide. We also had our friend Kathleen Edwards drop in and sing on one of the songs. Since then, we have been working with Jack Joseph Puig on mixing the record and settling on a name (when you have five parents, the naming process take a little bit longer). We're all really excited for you to hear it.

While it is customary in bios to write about the band's musical influences, you might be kind of sick of that (and ok with deciding for yourself) so in lieu of influences, some of the podcasts we like to listen to are: This American Life (Dan's favourite), The BS Report, Philosophy Bites, Baseball Today (my favourite) and Q. They probably find their way into the music somehow too. It's also customary to include some things people have said about us, so here it goes: Janet Kerman has said "the volume of your live show is a little on the loud side" and when asked about the Arkells, Nellie Dika suggested that "you guys don't sound like Kevin Costner Nicky; he's a country-western singer!"

Arkells are collectively 30 feet and 3 inches tall and weigh 912 pounds.

Look to the north – your new favorite singer-songwriter is coming to a town near you, once more. He has a voice of a peculiar angel, soft as a kiss, which has the ability to warm the coldest of hearts. He is Teitur (Tie-tor) Lassen, a man from the Faroe Islands who turns music into magic beautifully and effortlessly.

In 2002, Teitur was signed by the legendary Doug Morris to Universal Records in the US. And in 2003, Teitur released his first album, Poetry & Aeroplanes. Its simple, sincere songs made it a critical hit. He toured the USA and Canada extensively, initially working the East coast, then slowly building audiences all over North America, performed on chat shows, live radio sessions, was featured on MTV's You Hear It First, VH1 and CNN, watched as his songs got snapped up for film soundtracks (My Super Ex-Girlfriend and Aquamarine), and attracted the attention of respected singer-songwriters like Rufus Wainwright, Aimee Mann and John Mayer, all of whom took him on tour, from theatres to a large arena tour with Mayer.

In 2006 Teitur left Universal. He and his manager started their own label, and called it Arlo and Betty Recordings (after his two guitars). He released his second album Stay Under The Stars in the same year, a record full of richer writing and bolder characters, which went Gold in Denmark, spawning the huge radio hit "Louis Louis," and established him as a major star in Scandinavia and built his reputation across Continental Europe.

In 2007, Teitur also fulfilled a lifetime ambition by releasing an album in his mother tongue, Kata Hornid, before beginning work in late that year on The Singer, recorded in a Swedish Princess's house in Gotland, released in 2008 in Europe and early 2009 in the UK, his first album to be issued in Britain.

The Singer garnered five star reviews in the UK in The Guardian ("deep, viscous stuff that is never less than extraordinary") and The Independent ("a rare beast"), while the Sunday Times praised the singer-songwriter's "wonderfully idiosyncratic talent".

Then, in October 2009, the UK only release album All My Mistakes, a kind of ‘introduction to/best of' took us through the last seven years of Teitur's glittering career and revealed the marvellous jewels from his back catalogue. Achieving his second Album of The Week in The Independent, Andy Gill wrote of the album: "…there's more than enough evidence here to bear out Teitur's assertion, in the title-track, that 'all my mistakes have become masterpieces' ".

The Hamilton in Washington, DC Tyler Hilton + Ryan Cabrera + Teddy Geiger (at The Hamilton)

Three stand-outs from the singer-songwriter world on tour together: Ryan Cabrera (platinum singles "On The Way Down", "True", "Shine On"), Teddy Geiger (platinum single "For You I Will", star of the film "The Rocker") & Tyler Hilton (star of CW's "One Tree Hill" & Oscar winning film "Walk the Line"). Performing their best loved songs, as well as new material, in an intimate, acoustic setting.

TYLER HILTON
Before Tyler Hilton wrote the songs that appear on his new album The Storms We Share he had never written anything but love songs. "It's not that I was uninterested in things other than love, but it was love that made me want to write songs," the 26-year-old singer, songwriter, and guitarist says. Which would have been fine except that Hilton had been working on a new album for three years and had already scrapped hundreds of songs that he didn't consider good enough. Uninspired, he was having a hard time motivating himself to keep going.Hilton moved to Los Angeles and released a self-titled independent album in 2000. He also indulged his other passion, acting, by appearing in The CW's One Tree Hill and the indie cult favorite Charlie Bartlett, and playing Elvis Presley in the 2005 Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line. (Hilton's songs have been included on the Grammy Award-winning Walk the Line soundtrack and on all three of One Tree Hill's popular soundtracks.) Hilton signed with Maverick Records and released The Tracks Of Tyler Hilton in September 2004.

The album entered The Billboard charts in the Top 10 (#8), winning "Best Album Of The Year" at the Annual Musiqtone Awards. Teddy was nominated for a Teen Choice Award for "Favorite Love Song," and in February 2007, won MTV Australia's Best New Artist VMA award, where the album went Gold. His first single, "For You I Will (Confidence)" which he co-wrote and arranged, went Platinum in the USA and was Top 10 at radio in several countries. Northe

Northe is a 5-piece rock band based out of Jacksonville, Florida. Our sound draws on several different musical genres including pop, alternative, and indie rock. The main thing to get about Northe is that after nearly a year and a half of being a band, as well as touring the Florida area extensively, we have evolved from being a student band at the University of North Florida, to one of the most a nticipated up and coming bands in the southeast. 2012 is a big year for us, and as Northe continues to gain more attention touring through local and regional music venues, we anticipate bigger things. As May 2012 served as the release of our debut EP "Oh Darla", we now anticipate the release of our debut music video from our first single "1037", which will premier in August. All in all, Northe will continue to tour and play shows throughout the year, expanding ultimately throughout the southeast for their ever-growing fan base.

THE NRIs
A non-resident Indian, Nayan Bhula decided to use the moniker "The NRI" in 2007 when he released some of his lo-fi 4-track cassette recordings. That collection of songs, spanning more than 10 years, showed Nayan learning to play, sing, and write in a laid-back acoustic setting-a sharp contrast to the high-energy post punk feel of his band, GIST. After some positive reaction to those older songs, he decided to record full-band versions of some of them along with some new songs. During this phase, a few of his favorite musicians happened to be either leaving bands or moving into the DC-metro area. Hence, "The NRI" became "The NRIs"-adding Gabriel Fry (ex-The Alphabetical Order, We Were Pirates, etc.), Shawn Leonard (ex-Stefan Couture & The Campfire Orch.), Jesse Burgman, and Audrey White for a May 2009 live debut. After trying out violinists, The NRIs finally added their sixth and final member, Melanie Papasian, in late 2009. After spending months in and out of friends' studios, The NRIs finished their debut EP, 8:42AM, which was released in May 2010. Their sophomore effort, Kings and Birds, was released in June 2011. The NRIs new EP, "The Charm", was recorded at Inner Ear Studios and released in 2012, check it out at www.thenris.bandcamp.com

"We've gotten email, or fan mail…whatever you want to call it, from people for years from so many different places that we couldn't get ourselves to. And so to have the chance to do that now is really a blessing. Music is fan driven, it has to be. The fans that we have, their support and loyalty is never lost on us. Natalie York

"Vienna's Natalie York is on the rise." Washingtonian

At the heart of Kayte's music is the desire for true community – community that is felt in that moment when you can't help but sing along, and when you hear your deepest heart cry articulated back to you in the lyrics of a song, and especially in the moments spent right after the show, meeting and laughing and grabbing a bite to eat with fans and friends who came to see her perform. It's about community. And storytelling. The audiences of her live shows feel it.

Only three years after first picking up a guitar, Kayte Grace has been featured not only by The Washington Post, but also by YouTube, The Augusta Chronicle, NBC and ABC in Georgia, Columbia Spectator, Ivy League Christian Observer and Washingtonian Magazine. She has more than 650,000 views on her YouTube videos, has released 3 albums, launched a 130 station college radio campaign, performed at NYC venues like The Bitter End and Sidewalk Café, went on a seven-city tour of the South (2009), performed during SXSW at Red Gorilla Music Fest (Austin, Tx) and released a full album (Written On) in May 2010. Most recently, Kayte organized, booked and self-promoted a 20 city, 22 show cross country tour (2010) promoting "Written On". During the tour she performed live with her legendary bassist cousin, Victor Wooten and filmed a music video. Her songs have been featured in two independent films. A Screen Actors Guild member, Kayte has acted professionally for over fifteen years, landing roles in national commercials and in television shows like Law & Order: SVU, HBO's The Wire, and Gossip Girl.

Lilt

definition: lilt noun \ˈlilt\ 1: a spirited and usually cheerful song or tune 2: a rhythmical swing, flow, or cadence 3: a springy buoyant movement…

Lilt” — a duo consisting of Tina Eck on flute and tinwhistle and Keith Carr on bouzouki and banjo — are trying to impersonate all of the aforementioned definitions of their name with their music. They met in the Washington DC session scene some years back and found that “flute and zouk” were a good instrumental match for what they love to play: traditional dance music from Ireland. Jigs and reels, polkas and hornpipes, the occasional slow air or song. Lilt loves and tries to capture the essentials of Irish traditional music: boundless energy, wildness and melancholy.  They perform regularly across the Mid-Atlantic region, with frequent appearances at concerts and festivals.  Their second CD, "Onward", has been highly praised in the Irish music press and is receiving radio airplay on traditional music programs in the US, Ireland, and Europe.

Carlton is a pop/rock trio based in Los Angeles. They started playing together in 2009 under the name Mercury in Summer in the Washington, D.C. area, where they all grew up. They formed a strong musical bond over the years adopting a DIY mentality, self-producing and releasing 5 separate EP's. They were able to work with some heavy hitters in the music industry including jam-band legend John Molo (Phil Lesh and Friends, John Fogerty, Moonalice), engineer/producer Ross Hogarth (Jimmy Eat World, Sick Puppies, Van Halen), and engineer/producer Dave Way (Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney, Spice Girls). They eventually decided to relocate to the west coast for a fresh start under a new name. Carlton, comprised of Richard Wynne (Vocals, Guitar), Brian Jones (Bass), and Brendan McCusker (Drums) plays pop songs with grooves and arrangements spanning all styles of music, from groovy Motown-inspired drumbeats, to intricate African 6/8. "We don't want to limit ourselves musically. We just want to do whatever best fits the song," says McCusker. Even though they characterize themselves as a pop group, they emphasize improvisation in their live shows. No two live shows are ever the same. Their debut LP "Stretching" is set for release in January 2013.

BONE ISLAND
Bone Island is an indie folk pop band from the eastern suburbs of DC. They formed in 2010 in the basement of their drummer's vacation home on a small island bearing the same name, underneath the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Bone Island's use of somewhat unusual instruments (singing saw, french horn, euphonium, distorted electric guitar, high-energy particle collider) hearkens to the folky sound of Neutral Milk Hotel, to the flowing melodies of The Penguins, and to the emotive lyrics of Death Cab for Cutie.

@JamnJavaDoorGal’s LOCAL SCENE: Company Calls

https://twitter.com/JamnJavaDoorGal

Company Calls, is an all-girl post punk trio that blasted onto DC's indie scene with its catchy riffs, hypnotic vocals, and no nonsense bad-assness. From the opening note, these girls will captivate you with their sheer talent. Fronted by Peruvian songstress Nathalie "Nat" Vega, the band was formed when Nat met Krystle "Krys" Fernandez during a show at Iota Café in Arlington, VA back in 2008. The girls quickly found their drummer Sam Bottorf and bonded over their love for Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Tegan and Sara, The Cure, and Death Cab for Cutie. As one new fan succinctly stated after hearing them perform for the first time, "I have a crush on their sound." Check them out, you will too!

G.U.T.S
Tiik, Tina & August will knock the wind out of you with their 7 song EP, It Takes G.U.T.S. Think Patti Smith, Buzzcocks & Bob Dylan meet the X-RAY SPEX. Through serendipity and Tiik's vision, three long-term rockers found each other and created G.U.T.S., which stands for "Give Us The Strength." Tiik, Tina, and August have been playing as G.U.T.S. since 2009 with Tiik on guitar/vocals, Tina on drums, and August on bass. Tiik has been in the national rock/punk scene for many years, including the release of her album, National Tears, and being band mates with the inspirational Toshi Reagon. She was driven to create G.U.T.S. as a new band-experience and connected with Tina through the helpful social networking tools of the internet! Together, Tiik and Tina rocked in DC until they found their thunderous bass player, August, through the chromatic magic of Artomatic and their friend, Phil. August has been playing rock/alternative for many years and was previously in the DC band "Shame Girl." Tina is the incredible self-taught drummer who's love for drumming extends into her business as a drum builder; she has built for Les Warner (The Cult), Rob San Pietro(Meatmen), Leesa Squyres(Lez Zepplin) and others. GUTS music builds on their years of varied experiences and ultimately grows out of that mystical place between classic rock/punk and new rock. G.U.T.S. has played venues from Virginia to Connecticut in clubs, festivals and backyard BBQs.

JESSIE STRICK OF FRANKIE & BETTY
F & B are a fun-loving duo made up of Rachel Bauchman and Jessie Strick who decided to stop talking about getting together to jam and actually make it happen. In the process, magic was created, a lot of fun was had, a lot of Natty Boh was consumed, and music was made. They've played lots of shows ranging from Phasefest 2011, GirlsRockDC benefits 2 years counting, and more. If you love great music and super friendly musicians, you will love Frankie & Betty. That's just called science. Francesca Elizabeth Bauchman (Frankie) was adopted from Guitar Center in Rockville, MD by Rachel Bauchman. Betty Trouble Strick (Betty) was adopted by Jessie Strick at Guitar Center in Fairfax, VA. Jessie and Rachel met (while playing their respective guitars) at Open Mic at Phase 1 in DC. This superhero duo later met tipsily outside of Chief Ike's. Topics discussed ranged from Saved by the Bell (Hot Sundae forever) to the components of a 'tacopunch.' Since then, multiple performances, metric tons of both Jim Beam and PBR have been imbibed, and music has been made. Also, we love ferrets, show cats, super creepy netflix queues, and 80s pop sensation Tiffany Darwisch.

Washington, D.C. area musician Eric Scott has to date enjoyed a varied and interesting musical journey. As a touring bassist and vocalist, Scott has performed on numerous stages throughout Europe, Canada, the Caribbean Islands, Central America, and the entire United States. While building his reputation as one of the area's most sought after sidemen & session players, Scott wrote and released three solo records, DIVINE STATIC (1999), LET'S HEAR IT FOR THE FOOLS (2002), and RED (2007), to critical acclaim. The journey continues with Scott's fourth release WHERE THE WATER RUNS DEEPEST (May 2012) on the Itzall Goode Music label (Indie). DEEPEST further explores the neo-soul, funk, and pop influences of RED…but Scott's sound continues to evolve. It is no less confessional than RED…maybe even more so…and is even more personal and intimate with it's stripped down production and arrangements. While the performances are first rate, this release is all about the songs and the voice; and they are wrapped in a sheerer, warmer, acoustic package.

"Going to a SUPER bob show is like getting on a f'ing roller coaster, they rock your ass off and you can't wait to get back on." -Whitney (On Air personality) DC 101

SUPER bob is a four-piece high energy rock band based in the Washington DC area. Childhood friends Adam Smith (guitar) and Matt Santoro (vocals) formed the band, under the name "bob" in ‘05 with the vision of bringing something fresh to a rock scene that seemed to have forgotten what rock n roll was really about. Soon after, they added Drew Recny (bass) and Chris Faircloth (drums). This band breathes rebellious authenticity back into music and reminds you that rock music is supposed to make you get up and not give a damn about being you.

When you see SUPER bob live your senses will be overwhelmed by a borderline excess of stage presence and heart pounding sound. P.R.S sponsored guitarist Adam Smith brings a package of uniqueness, flare, and pure adrenaline that is rarely found in any one musician, while classically trained Drew Recny packs a clean, punchy bass style that is loaded with obvious talent and a technique that only comes with full dedication and commitment to his craft. Christopher Faircloth, a Spaun Drum Company sponsored drummer, brings an almost indescribable style to the table, one with high flying stick tricks, and hard pounding, ear deafening, strong beats. The proverbial icing on the SUPER bob cake is provided by Matt Santoro's vocals which can only be described as unabashedly his own. Full of ear catching melodies, unapologetic and blatantly honest lyrics, and a flow that is uncommon yet undeniably at home in rock, Santoro's songwriting couples with an unrivaled stage presence that caps off one of the best live bands you will ever get the chance to experience.

SUPER bob's buzz was established with their eye catching live shows, non-stop hustle, and no excuses work ethic. Tattoos, colored hair, dread locks, and plenty of good old fashioned rock n roll grit distinguishes them from the undedicated and identifies them as the real deal in an industry riddled with fakers. After three years of hard work at gaining recognition, winning the loyalty of fans in their local scene, and growing a fan-base across the Mid-Atlantic, SUPER bob hooked up with Grammy nominated producer Garth "GGGarth" Richardson. They went to Vancouver BC to record their first full length record entitled "bbbob" and then hit the road for the next three years playing an average of 130 shows annually over a span of 19 states.

"I have seen over 7,500 bands in the last fifteen years, and SUPER bob is one of the best. Never have I seen a band gain fans so quick and rock it on stage with such energy. They will woo grandmas to teenies" -Mick Minchow Owner/ Booking Agent/ Promoter – Ground Zero-Spartanburg SC

Good For The Jews: Putting The Ha! In Hanukkah Tour feat. Rob Tannenbaum + David Fagin

They've appeared on "The Today Show" and on NPR (twice, even), and have played in rock clubs and synagogues, at the Boston Jewish Film Festival and the Brown University Hillel, the Kansas City JCC and the historic Sixth & I Synagogue in D.C., as well as the Leeds (U.K.) International Jewish Arts Festival. They have an especially strong appeal with young Jews, though our following extends to anyone with an unorthodox sense of humor.

Rob was named one of "New York's Best Emerging Jewish Artists" by the Museum of Jewish Heritage. Time Out New York featured him in a cover story on "The New Super Jews," The New York Times included him in an article on "the Jewish hipster," and Heeb magazine elected him to their "Heeb 100," a list of "young, smart and innovative" Jews in the arts.

As evidence of Good For the Jews' fresh approach to Jewish music, we've amassed a huge press kit, where the words "hilarious" and "Jon Stewart" frequently appear.

Good For The Jews are a hilarious musical duo from NYC who have been profiled on NPR and appeared on "The Today Show."

Mixing music and comedy in an irreverent and unorthodox way, they sing about Passover, Jewish girls, and relatives who live in Florida.

Their vow: "No songs about dreidels. And no Israeli folk-dancing." Hear their songs at GoodForTheJews.net or MySpace.com/GoodForTheJews.

The words "hilarious" and "Jon Stewart" appear frequently in articles written about them:

"This is not your father's Judaism: Jews with an edge and proud of it." -Baltimore Jewish Times

"A hilarious musical act. Don't miss them." -National Public Radio

"The voice of the Jewish hipster movement." -UR Chicago

"Good For The Jews' have been called 'hilarious' from coast to coast." -Philadelphia Weekly

"Like Sarah Silverman and Jon Stewart, this show is wickedly hilarious." -Village Voice

• First come, first seated Winterbloom: Holiday Traditions Rearranged w/ Meg Hutchinson

Winterbloom is a collective of four successful, internationally touring singer-songwriters – Antje Duvekot, Anne Heaton, Meg Hutchinson, and Natalia Zukerman. While carving their own paths in indie Folk, Americana, Pop and Singer-Songwriter music, each have celebrated one another's accomplishments on the road, and fostered the spirit of collaboration back at home (at one time they all lived in Boston – Anne is now in Chicago, Natalia in Brooklyn).

One magical show in December 2008 moved them tour together in 2009 as "Winterbloom" with a winter/holiday album they wrote and recorded called "Winterbloom: Traditions Rearranged." On their first tour in 2009, they played select shows in the US in the Northeast, Midatlantic and Midwest regions including performing live at Folk Alley, Mountain Stage and First Night Boston. They received rave reviews of both the fresh new recordings and moving live concerts, prompting them to reunite in the summer of 2010 for the Boston Music Festival and Lilith Fair. Last winter, they brought their holiday show to Antje's homeland Germany and also played in The Netherlands. This summer they are pleased to announce that they will be a part of Cayamo 2012.

Last year in the US only, Winterbloom released a new holiday album and developed a live show, tailored for winter season. The 8-song EP/album they wrote and recorded together is called "Winterbloom: Traditions Rearranged." On the album and in the show, they perform new arrangements of traditional holiday songs alongside their own originals and special winter/holiday songs they wrote just for this project. The show plays on elements of their different backgrounds – German, American, Jewish, Unitarian, Christian, Catholic, Northeastern, Midwestern, Urban, Rural, Religious, Secular, Academic, etc… They celebrate not just religious traditions, but also seasonal caroling and family gathering traditions. Witty, intimate, thoughtful, fun.

ANTJE DUVEKOT
“ranks with the most intense and beautiful singer songwriters on the planet” -Dave Marsh, former Music Editor, Rolling Stone
Antje Duvekot was born in Heidelberg Germany. At the age of 13, she moved to Wilmington, Delaware with her mother. She could barely speak English and found solace in the music of folksingers like John Gorka, Ellis Paul and Cheryl Wheeler. She remembers how much she loved singing German folk songs in school. She pays tribute to her German heritage with her new arrangement of “Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht (Silent Night)” which she sings with Meg Hutchinson. Duvekot is currently in the thick of the release of her new album “The Near Demise of the High Wire Dancer” produced by Richard Shindell.

ANNE HEATON
“tender, amusing, barbed and spiritual” -The Washington Post
Native of Wilmette Illinois, near Chicago, Anne Heaton and her brothers were raised Catholic and always went to mass on Christmas Eve. While Heaton still draws on what she learned, and is particularly inspired by mystics such as St. Teresa of Avila, she considers herself a more generally spiritual person as an adult. Her vibey, upbeat holiday song “As You Are” focuses on authentic relationships and seeing people as they are, right now, in this moment. Heaton’s new release “Blazing Red” was called “absolutely gorgeous” by the New York Times online and was featured on NPR’s “Here And Now” Program. She is currently working on “Life Is Alchemy,” a project that tells the transformational stories of people of diverse cultures and experiences through original songs.

MEG HUTCHINSON
“A master of introspective ballads” -Performing Songwriter
Born in the Berkshire hills of western Massachusetts, Meg Hutchinson and her sisters were raised to believe that church can also be found on a walk in the woods, or hidden in a good poem. This reverence for language and the natural world is always in her songwriting. At the holidays, Hutchinson family rituals included singing and reading stories and prayers from many different faiths. It’s no surprise that when asked to write a song for the holidays this year, Hutchinson drew upon the O. Henry story “The Gift of the Magi” for inspiration. Hutchinson has been touring in support of her new album “The Living Side,” on Red House Records.

NATALIA ZUKERMAN
“bluesy folk-rock tunes, burnished croon, serious guitar chops” -TimeOut NY
Natalia Zukerman grew up in New York City. She refers to herself as being “culturally Jewish,” a distinction that belies that fact that while not observant, she holds certain Jewish traditions dear – food, candles, gatherings, prayers, and most of all music. Zukerman’s new modern spin on the traditional Yiddish song “Tumbalalaika” introduces the four voices of Winterbloom and epitomizes what the album project was all about – taking tradition and making it brand new again. Zukerman also painted the album cover art. In follow up to her recent album “Brand New Frame” produced by Willy Porter, Zukerman’s next release “Gas Station Roses” is anticipated for February 2010.

Marah Presents Mountain Minstrelsy

Core members of the rock n roll band Marah (David Bielanko & Christine Smith) have musically directed an album of lost and forgotten folk songs collected in the mountains of Central Pennsylvania (circa 1850-1910) The writing was admittedly fragmented and inaccurate thus giving the two complete liberty in re-inventing, re-imagining and re-working each "song" back to life as a rambling, ramshackle collection of rocking folk music. It was simply there to be done.

The Mountain Minstrelsy band was culled from a small Pennsylvania town called Millheim and features a nine year old fiddle prodigy Augustus Tritsch (Gus!) Together the six piece band creates a big old fashioned sound while continuing to employ Dave & Christine's Rock n Roll learnings…banjos, fiddles, pump organ, upright bass etc. You're prolly gonna wanna see this.

The Dangerous Summer

Straightforward, earnest rock music seems to be a contradiction from the direction popular music has strayed as of late. The need for genuine lyrics, purposeful direction and accessible melodies has been long overdue. The Dangerous Summer have crafted a throwback to the days when music was charged with hope and contained a much-needed brand of sincerity. As Payne recalls, The Dangerous Summer's first NYC show was held in a bar basement, and included an audience of five. But for this collection of friends who'd been toiling away in the band since high school, these were simply the dues of an ambitious group of musicians. And that low attendance record soon became a thing of the past once Hopeless Records came calling, finding the band's quintessential rock pleasers just as inviting and impressive as those hometown patrons. Since then, the band has made amazing strides and gained thousands of fans. They have just released their 2nd full length studio follow up album to " Reach For The Sun" entitled "War Paint". The album has been receiving amazing reviews from fans and critics which solidified the band as one to watch for.

YOUNG STATUES
In the winter of 2010, a spontaneous trip to Athens, GA became the birth of New Jersey/Philadelphia indie-rock outfit Young Statues. The record first began to take shape at Chase Park Transduction Studios, where a series of songs were recorded between friends, songs that were initially never intended to be released. Intrigued by the results of these sessions, songwriter and vocalist Carmen Cirignano decided to continue working on them with longtime producer and engineer Steve Poponi at the Gradwell House in Haddon Heights, NJ. It was here, with the help of bassist Tom Ryan and drummer Daniel Bogan, that these songs were transformed into the impressive debut record for a band comprised of longtime friends in the Philadelphia area music scene. Full of swelling guitars, intricate vocal melodies and introspective lyrics, "Young Statues" is evidence of a group of musicians who have honed their skills and made a record to be revered for its beauty, tact, and honesty.

THE RELAPSE SYMPHONY
The Relapse Symphony is a band with no rules. They shun the notion of needing to be easily definable and prefer to let the music do the talking. Their sound is that of angst driven rock with a slicker, sharper edge. Their lyrics explore themes of self reliance, and finding the strength within yourself to take chances and break all of the rules. Their debut EP sees the band infusing their infectious melodies with a glimpse of the darker side of rock and roll, openly embracing their influences along the way.

NAMESAKE
Comprised of band members that all bear their fathers' names, the appropriately titled Atlanta, Georgia group, Namesake, is comprised of vocalist Will Crafton, guitarists Brad Wagner and Troy Harmon, bassist Seth Van Dusen, and drummer Kevin Nordeste. The group posses a knack for penning hard-edged, highly melodic pop tunes, as evidenced by their debut album, 'Borders & Fences' (produced by James Paul Wisner), and such song as "Worlds Away" (the album's first single), "Saturday," "A Million Good Reasons," and the title track. And according to Crafton, the group's goal is a simple one. "We want to get to the status to where if you walk into a room packed with people and someone yells 'Namesake,' at least one person will recognize the name. Well…that and world domination. But that can wait!"

Sub-Radio Standard

The myth of the phoenix, which ignites and is reborn from its own ashes, seems to have been written for Sub-Radio Standard. Not only were they themselves formed from the disparate pieces of former bands, but their music explores that same theme; finding ecstatic highs out of the shuddering lows of life, brought out by thundering crescendos and a spirit of catharsis. With distinctively powerful vocals and focused songwriting beyond their years, Sub-Radio Standard is bringing a rebirth to the standard pop rock song.

Matt Prodanovich (Lead Guitar/Vocals) and John Fengya (Keyboard/Guitar) had been experimenting with melodies and riffs since 2005; but there's only so much ground to cover with two guitarists and no rhythm section. Multi-instrumentalist Michael Pereira, with the talent to be a third guitarist, instead became a self-taught drummer in 2008 and the group started to think of itself as a band. Adam Bradley (Lead Vocals) joined the group in 2010 after the briefest of solo careers (read: two YouTube videos) and the group found a musical niche, nestling in between the piano-driven alt-rock of Oasis ("I Am The Desert", "Interior Lighting") and the acoustic harmonies of Jack's Mannequin ("Nothing Wrong", "Amber"). With the addition of a crowd-pleasing bassist in Mark (Barry) Siford and a rhythm guitarist in Mike Chinen to plug gaps in their sound, SRS was suddenly overflowing with explosively catchy songs.

Their debut self-titled album, recorded with platinum-winning producer Jim Ebert and due for digital release this summer, is a testament to the band's rapid maturation. The band seems to shift between genres and arrangements effortlessly, all the while crafting a coherent sound. Songs like album closer "Interior Lighting" illustrate SRS's signature style: shimmering guitars, melodic piano, and instantly recognizable vocals, building to an explosive finish. Bradley's lyrics twist and turn, leaping from bright-eyed innocence to reflective cynicism: "Well the music's off and the fire's dead/But your song's still burning in my head". Slow-burning songs with dramatic emotional release; that's what Sub-Radio Standard is all about.

DAUGHTER OF STARS
Daughter of Stars' style echoes that of decades past where rock 'n roll was devoid of pretention and full of hopeful innocence. Thundering riffs are tempered with heartfelt songwriting and soaring harmonies fusing each song with a searing intensity. The band burst onto the DC scene in late 2011 when Billboard Award winning songwriter Nick Samuels, formerly of Numa, found an outlet for the raw rock sound he was envisioning in vocalist Devon, whose powerful bluesy wail has been compared to 70's rockers Ann Wilson and Janis Joplin. A Catie Curtis Christmas

A Catie Curtis Christmas: For three years in a row, including this upcoming December, Catie Curtis has been invited to the White House to perform for the holidays. While rehearsing with her quartet the night before the 2010 performance, Catie and company – Elana Arian (violin), Ingrid Graudins (vocals), and John Jennings (baritone guitar, vocals) – quickly realized the holiday spirit was in the air, and needed to be captured right away. They zipped over to the studio and recorded five songs late into the night. In December 2011, with snow flurries swirling, the group circled up in the studio and recorded another batch of songs. Curtis explains, "These White House shows generated a spirit of anticipation and magic and reminded me why I love this time of year. For me the holidays are not just about the sacred or the secular – it's about the feeling of love and possibility."

Catie Curtis is a master singer-songwriter and has recorded 10 albums. Catie lives in Boston with her partner Liz, their two daughters, and two pugs. In addition to being a recording & touring musician, Catie recently organized all 75+ house concerts for Voices United for Separation of Church & State, manages Aspire to Inspire, an endowment that provides instruments to low-income youth, and is an ordained minister, marrying LGBTQ couples all across the US.

Charlene Kaye

It's been all systems go for Hawaii-born, New York-based Charlene Kaye since releasing her sophomore album "Animal Love," which reached #15 on the iTunes pop charts upon its release this May and has been hailed as "a tour de force of Kaye's songwriting talents and her voice" (the Pop Stereo) and "fluent in classical piano as [it] is in glam rock" (the New Yorker). In addition to touring relentlessly and playing CMJ and SXSW festivals, the ambitious songwriter/multi-instrumentalist has earned enthusiastic reviews from PopMatters, VH1, Huffington Post, NPR, The Atlantic, the NY Deli, the Village Voice and more for her commanding voice, deft guitar playing and electrifying live shows. She has shared a bill with the likes of Big Boi, Minus the Bear and Holly Miranda and has over a million views on her YouTube channel. This past November and again in May, she went on two national tours supporting musical theater/internet sensation Team StarKid, earning her thousands of new fans. Her single "Dress and Tie" featuring good friend Darren Criss of Glee was featured in a promo for NBC's Chuck, had extensive play on radio stations nationwide, and was selected as official boarding music for Delta Airlines.

With a sound that fuses the buoyant pop of Robyn and Niki & the Dove, the vintage soul of Prince, and the sentimentality of Rufus Wainwright, Charlene Kaye is a force whose music is at once classic and contemporary, of the times yet unmistakably timeless. With a rapidly growing fan base and more touring on the horizon, Kaye shows no signs of slowing down, picking up steam even before she leaves the ground.

JAY STOLAR is on a journey. With an exceptional voice, infectious melodies, and honest lyrics, the New Jersey born artist has become a respected member of the NYC music scene. After writing hundreds of songs and delivering thousands of performances, he has truly arrived at a signature sound. Playing over 500 shows internationally, having a charted single on FMBQ, multiple appearances at SXSW and CMJ, winning national contests and, most importantly, building a musical relationship with the members of the band. Everything culminated at CMJ In October 2011 when top audio engineer, Ari Raskin (Robin Thicke, One Republic, Justin Timberlake, Kanye West), came to one of Jay's shows at Rockwood Music Hall. Jay's band that night was comprised mostly of former members of Julius C, and the chemistry impressed Raskin. He immediately offered to record the band at Downtown Records Studio in NYC, which led to the recording of a 4-track EP to be released in Spring 2012. Jay Stolar, along with that same band, is played several showcases at SXSW this year.

DANCE FOR THE DYING

Will Hoge: Let Me Be Lonely Tour 2012

With each order of 2 or more tickets purchased in advance, you will receive one autographed limited-edition poster of the Will Hoge Let Me Be Lonely Tour 2012.
(offer valid until 12/8/12)

Will Hoge has made a career of writing and singing powerful songs about life's cruel and dark turns. Not long ago, he fell victim to one such turn. As Hoge rode his scooter home from the studio, he was struck by an oncoming van that had veered into his lane. There were no skid marks. Launched off his bike, Hoge ended up bloodied, broken-boned, temporarily blinded, and near death.

"[The accident] was like stopping a record as it spins," says Hoge, who had been halfway through recording material for his new record before getting derailed. "It was like taking the needle and pushing it off the turntable."

For ten months, the accident sidelined Hoge. For ten months, it made him do something he hadn't done in 18 years: stop the music. Larger matters dominated his life, like physical recovery and the well-being of his family. "People would say, ‘I bet you're ready to get back to playing and writing.' I'm thinking, ‘Playing or singing is not the issue right now. I'm ready to get back to walking.'"

ERICK BAKER
If you listen closely, you can hear a heartbeat in the songs of Erick Baker. A warm familiar pulse of love and loss echoing from somewhere just under the surface. Written with unguarded lyrical honesty, Erick's songs are passionate confessions that reflect many of our own deeply rooted emotions and secrets. Since releasing his debut EP, It's Getting Too Late To Say It's Early, in 2008, Erick's powerful voice and deeply personal songwriting style have led listeners through music rich with themes central to the emotional cornerstones of their lives. And recently, the message of Erick's music has quickly started to spread. Astonishingly, it wasn't until after college graduation that Erick, a small town Tennessee native, first picked up a guitar. In the smoky corners of Knoxville's pub and bar scene, Erick taught himself to play and sing. His talent became quickly evident, and he soon found himself opening for John Legend. Since, Erick has been invited to perform with an impressive array artists, including James Blunt, Gavin Degraw, Edwin McCain, the Goo Goo Dolls, Grace Potter, Brandi Carlisle and Heart. There is an underlying heartbeat in the songs of Erick Baker, and it is quickly growing stronger. Listen closely….can you feel it?

The Apache Relay

The Apache Relay was formed by chance in a Nashville college dorm when Michael Ford Jr. (vocals, bass) met Mike Harris (guitar, vocals). Ford Jr. happened to be looking for some musicians to help perform his own music live, when he heard about Harris’ newly formed band, The Apache Relay. Ford Jr. hired the trio, which also included Brett Moore (keys, guitar, mandolin) and Kellen Wenrich (fiddle), to back him at a show and it was immediately evident that the four musicians had a unique chemistry and were on to something special.

The four-piece released their debut LP titled 1988 in 2009. Produced by Doug Williams, (renowned for his authentically raw approach with the Avett Brothers) the record was lauded by Paste Magazine as one of “The Eight Most Auspicious Musical Debuts of 2009”. The band’s ability to effortlessly blend acoustic sounds with ferocious rock anthem elements only hinted at the band’s capabilities.

Capitalizing on the initial success of their debut with relentless touring, The Apache Relay honed their sound and released their sophomore album American Nomad in April 2011, in the US, via indie stalwart Thirty Tigers. Produced by Neilson Hubbard, the collection of modern roots-rock tracks encompassed the eclectic range of influences the band meshed so well; a tinge of Bad Brains, some Suzuki training, jazz lessons, a lot of Beatles’ listening, a knowledge of traditional mountain music, a worship of Phil Spector and the love for the complex but accessible layers of bands like Arcade Fire. A few months later, Ford Jr.‘s brother, Ben, joined the band as rhythm guitarist and supporting vocalist. The brothers had been harmonizing and playing together since the age of 12 and 13, so it was a natural fit.

Since the release of American Nomad, The Apache Relay, who round out their live show with the addition of drummer Aaron Early, have continued their regiment of non-stop touring, amassing a fervent fanbase and performing over 100 dates in 2011 alone, including coveted spots opening for Grammy nominated Mumford & Sons, and a breakout performance at Bonnaroo Music Festival. 2012 will see the band continue to tour in support of American Nomad including stops at SXSW, Canadian Music Fest, and Newport Folk Festival. The band’s first Canadian release, American Nomad EP, will be available through Dine Alone Records on March 13, 2012. The EP includes selected tracks from the band’s previous US full-length release.

“They’ve got kind of an Arcade Fire meets boys raised on gospel and Bruce Springsteen approach to what they do, and they’re called The Apache Relay. They’re a fantastic live band.” – Huffington Post

“The Apache Relay’s second album, American Nomad, is an excellent effort from a musically skilled group with evident appreciation for the rich, layered brand of American rock ‘n’ roll that pays homage to the road…” – Indie Shuffle

MOKEY DORIS
Mokey Doris started becoming deranged in the rotting wood of a sailboat off the coast of southern California. Relocating to the DC area, Mokey Doris grew and convulsed under the blazing moon and herbal rain. Their train stops here, it seems, in a most refreshing way, calling the children to board and enter into the distant glow. Mokey Doris welcomes the coming of the glow, and teaches those who will listen to welcome it too. Mokey Doris officially formed in 2010, crusty with the cakings of acid drenched consciousness. Once they gathered together their lineup, including Cody (Kalem's brother) who dropped out of college for the project (what a guy!), they began rehearsing 3-5 times a week in friend Rob's basement. Ben Ghobashi has been a constant whisperer of strange melodies, filming butterflies and dancing with demons. Eager to send their vibrations through brainstems, they petitioned drummer Mike, who agreed to pound the glow closer with a surprising grin. And Robert, playing with the twinkles that were secretly given to him by, as legend has it, Bobby the shaman (of Georgia). Mokey Doris is finishing up their debut album, which will be out December 3rd. You can even pre-order tickets for the party now!

"After that first big show with The Fray, I was sold on doing music for the rest of my life," says Tyler. Playing shows for thousands of people fueled Tyler's drive and creativity.

In February of 2010 Tyler decided to cover the massive hit "We Are The World" during the Winter 2010 Olympics. In the first week Tyler received 1.5 million views, and his career changed forever. Now with over 270,000,000+ views, Tyler has broken into mainstream music, and the charts. Tyler was the first independent musician to be charted on Billboard's SOCIAL 50, and has maintained status for 40+ weeks. Rubbing shoulders with the likes of Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Justin Bieber, and Rihanna, Tyler has been ranked as high as #14 in the world and currently holds the #4 position on Billboard Uncharted (ranked over 50 weeks), and connects with over 540,000+ fans on his Facebook page.

In 2010 Tyler also expanded his desire to work with other artists. With the inception of Tyler Ward Records and Tyler Ward Studios, Tyler is giving other artists a chance to be heard by hundreds of thousands of people every day all over the world.

In late 2012, Tyler will begin his second world tour in Europe and North America.

No Blitz is an American rock band that delivers in your face guitar riffs, driving drum beats, and catchy melodies. The quartet is based in Arlington, VA and spent Summer 2011 recording “Never Satisfied”, the upcoming EP, at Ellington Studios in Georgetown, Washington DC. As a band with an unpretentious personality and a knack for writing voluminous lyrics, edgy riffs, and memorable hooks, passion, hope, love and aggression encompass all their music, helping to draw in listeners and give them something to relate to. “Never Satisfied” their upcoming EP is titled appropriately with the consistent energy of longing clearly heard in the new lyrics. With the upcoming new music, new marketing campaign in full swing, and lengthy touring on the east coast/midwest, 2012 is going to be a promising year for the band.

Official Site | Twitter | Facebook | Fistful of Fifties + Overdrive Superthruster

Formed in the Fall of 2004, Fistful of Fifties has been rocking the Northern VA, DC and Maryland area with their familiar but unique sound. Their high energy songs have been influenced by 90’s alternative rock bands such as Nirvana, Cake, Staind and Foo Fighters. Joe Achtzener (bass), Matt Matis (vocals/guitar), Josh Pearson (drums) and David Saylor (guitar/vocals) combine catchy lyrics, melodic vocals, killer guitar solos, mind blowing bass licks and monster drumming to create what has been deemed “the up-and-coming sound of what has come to be expected in the clubs of Arlington and Fairfax counties” (Burke Connection) Not a band to let their influences put a strong hold on their music, Fistful of Fifties are continuously writing new songs ranging from the occasional softer ballad to hard rock, allowing enough diversity for their on stage antics to reach every type of fan.

OVERDRIVE SUPERTHRUSTER (ODST) is a Virginia based group playing a unique brand of heavy pop rock originals. Songs are massive combining heavy guitars, shot-gun drums, extraordinary bass lines, endless harmonies, and unforgettable hooks. Influences are varied (Stones, JET, Foo, Queen, QOTSA, Zeppelin, Beatles) but not overt or overdone as each song is performed via the musical talents of four very different rock and roll souls – from a Berklee trained bass player and trumpet-trained lead guitar player, to a self-taught country picker and a drummer from a marching band. This rare mix of rock'n'rolla's produces powerful tracks that give listeners' multiple influences in every song. The band's first studio album, Stay Gold Sessions (available @ iTunes and CD Baby), was a stripped down, self-produced affair recorded live in early 2007 in an attempt to capture the band's raw energy and pop hooks. Stay Gold Sessions was followed up by multiple live performances including the 2008 and 2009 Shamrock Festivals in Washington DC (DC area's biggest St. Patrick's Day Festival). After more live performances in the summer of 2009, the boys put touring on hold to record their second album. The new record, Raven Nevermore, is out now (CDBABY.com) and features 11 critically acclaimed original rock and roll tracks.

The Kennedys

The story of Pete and Maura Kennedy's personal and professional relationship, now in its second decade, is somewhere between fate and a fairytale. How else can you explain a chance meeting in Austin between two East Coast-born musicians that immediately sparked a songwriting collaboration, a first date at Buddy Holly's grave, an enduring romance, and a creative partnership that radiates warmth, positive energy, and captivating music?

In 1992, Virginia native Pete Kennedy was playing a solo show at Austin's Continental Club on a brief sabbatical from his duties as country-folk singer-songwriter Nanci Griffith's lead guitarist when he met former Syracuse, NY, resident Maura Boudreau, enjoying a night off from performing with her own country-rock band, The Delta Rays. The duo "instantly connected on a soul level, or maybe even something deeper," according to Pete. They wrote their first song together the following day before Pete returned to the road, and rendezvoused ten days later at mutual hero Buddy Holly's grave in Lubbock, Tex., 500 miles equidistant between them. And that's how it started . . .

After Pete and Maura's fateful 1992 meeting (the subject of their first Appleseed CD's title song, "Half a Million Miles") and several years of touring and recording with Nanci Griffith, the duo seceded amicably from Griffith's Blue Moon Orchestra and became The Kennedys, recording CDs that encompass their favorite musical styles while incorporating naturalistic, transcendental and mythological concepts into their songs and lives.

With the release of their tenth CD as The Kennedys and recent CDs by their Strangelings and Stringbusters side projects, as well as two new solo recordings (Pete Kennedy's "Guitarslinger", and Maura's debut solo CD, "Parade of Echoes" added to their discography, Pete and Maura remain the Energizer bunnies of the folk/rock world. Their touring schedule makes Bob Dylan seem lazy – they've played about 1500 gigs in the last 12 years, everywhere from house concerts to major festivals, and have recently rejoined Nanci Griffith's tour as part of her band and as her opening act in theatres and festivals around the world.

Roaring out of the southern Indiana foothills comes Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band… playing a brand of Americana and Blues that stands alone. Delta blues and hillbilly fervor combine with musical acuity sharp as razor wire… You'd best know… this trio is a force to be reckoned with! The growl of a good truck engine, the fiercest passion for country, home, and family, and an uncanny ability to breathe new life into old forms of music give them a pedigree many Americana acts would kill for. An ironclad work ethic keeps them on the road 250 dates a year. The Rev. J. Peyton, his wife Breezy and distant cousin Aaron "Cuz" Persinger are a living, breathing embodiment of the traditions native to their Brown County, Indiana home. Their brand new fifth album, Between The Ditches, is a chronicle of this lifestyle.

WHITEY MORGAN & THE 78'S
Whitey Morgan and the 78's are a Honky Tonk band from Flint, Michigan. They haven't re-invented the wheel, they just picked it up and started it rolling all over again. In Flint, the factories are closed, jobs are scarce and the people are bitter. Whitey sings songs these people can relate to. In much the same way his grandfather and mentor did over 3 decades ago, to a whole generation of southern transplants who came up to Flint looking for the good life. In the spirit of William Morgan, Waylon, Merle and Paycheck; Whitey's melodies help people forget their problems for a few hours and serve as the guideline for drinking sorrows away. The 78's halftime groove brings out everyone's dancing shoes and while Whitey and the 78's play, the world is a better place. Emerging from the Detroit area music scene, re-creating a forgotten genre for the area, Whitey Morgan and the 78's have toured the country spreading their sound and attitude everywhere they go. They play honky tonk tunes in any club in any town without apology-they drive their point home just like their families drove the cars they built on the line home from work. With a purpose.

Mama’s Black Sheep

FEATURING:

Mama’s Black Sheep is the musical collaboration of singer-songwriters Ashland Miller (guitar/vocals) and Laura Cerulli (drums/vocals). Touring together since 2008 and both veterans of the singer-songwriter circuit, Miller & Cerulli will make you feel like you’ve been listening to their music for years. On the heels of their well received 2010 debut recording Unmarked Highway, which was nominated for Best Debut Recording in 2010 by the Washington Area Music Assoc.(WAMA) along with the nomination of Mama’s Black Sheep for Best New Artist, comes Drivin’ On, the second release for Miller & Cerulli. “This project is for the fans” says Cerulli. “We wanted to create something interesting and fun that captures some of the energy from our live performances” adds Miller. Drivin’ On features nine originals and two covers, recorded at some of the duo’s favorite venues & festivals during 2011. Drivin’ On, typical of Mama’s Black Sheep, is an effortless blend of Blues, Country and Acoustic Rock. Miller & Cerulli are also joined on several tracks by accomplished Violinist Helen Hausmann, and throughout by Bassist and Recording Engineer Robin Elder.

Before Mama’s Black Sheep, Ashland toured for twelve years as part of the award-winning acoustic duo CommonbonD, releasing six CD's, performing on The Nashville Network (TNN), and showcasing their music in over forty states as well as overseas. Ashland's songwriting, harmonies, and creative musical arrangements have been shared on stage with talent such as John Mayer, Ritchie Havens, Catie Curtis, and Sophie B. Hawkins. Laura previously fronted her own band, Cerulean Groove. Since 2005 she has been touring nationally and internationally as a member of SONiA & disappear fear. Laura’s distinctive style has been appreciated everywhere from The Kerrville Folk Festival (TX), to The Barns at Wolftrap (VA), to the High Sierra Music Festival (CA), to The Red Roof Women’s Festival (Ontario), and even ‘down under’ at Woodford Folk Festival (AUS).

Together Miller and Cerulli create a unique tapestry of songs, weaving vibrant color and rich texture to create a dynamic conversation between guitar and percussion. Miller’s passionate voice will make you laugh, cry, feel inspired, and ultimately want more. And Bob Steel of Baltimore Out Loud writes “Cerulli opens her mouth and the world stands still as she wrings every drop of emotion out of the lyrics with her powerful, soaring voice, forged in the fire of the blues and tempered in the cool technique of her classical training."

For this special show at Jammin’ Java, they will be joined by bassist Robin Elder, and violinist Helen Hausmann.

An Intimate Acoustic Evening w/ Tyrone Wells

Purchase two or more tickets in advance and receive a FREE live recording of the performance with Tyrone Wells.

There's nothing quite like a fresh start.

Tyrone Wells' fourth full-length album, Where We Meet, ushers in a new beginning for the critically acclaimed singer-songwriter. Not only is it his first full-length release since leaving a major label, it signifies his next evolution. Embracing both sides of his sound, Wells seamlessly balances acoustic vulnerability and pop rock irresistibility over the course of eleven unforgettable anthems. Ultimately, Where We Meet is the perfect place for Wells to start anew while keeping the same ethic that has won him his loyal fan base from his early independent days.

The journey to Where We Meet actually began on the high seas in 2010. He was playing The Rock Boat, an annual floating festival that travels from Tampa, FL to Cozumel, Mexico. Out on the ship in the middle of the ocean, he had an epiphany. With two lauded major label releases under his belt-Hold On [2006] and Remain [2009]-and countless high-profile film and TV placements including American Idol, One Tree Hill, Vampire Diaries, Rescue Me, Grey's Anatomy, My Sister's Keeper, Something Borrowed and more, Wells felt the urge to go independent again.

Free from any constraints, Wells started working on that "great record" by penning over 80 songs. In the middle of that process, he managed to release the digital EP, Metal & Wood in 2010. Metal & Wood spent nearly three weeks at #1 on the iTunes Singer/Songwriter chart and debuted at #14 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart. Inspired immensely, he feverishly kept writing, experimenting, and pushing himself for almost two years. Taking his time in the studio, Wells worked diligently with two producers Thomas Doeve and Bill Lefler. The result is Where We Meet.

In some ways, Where We Meet brings Wells back to where it all began. Being independent again is like going back to his roots, except this time it is selling out venues, rather than coffee shops. He's carving his own path. "I'm not in music so I can get rich," he declares. "I have what I need and more. The aim for me isn't to get famous. The aim is to make great music that I can stand by." With his first baby on the way and Where We Meet dropping this spring, he certainly has a lot to stand by. Wells concludes, "I'm doing what I love and if my art resonates with other people, I'm happy. I love it when someone tells me that my music is the soundtrack to their lives. I hope I can continue to provide that."

Where We Meet is just the beginning…

Jessica Lea Mayfield & David Mayfield- The Sibling Rivalry Tour

Siblings and best friends Jessica Lea Mayfield and David Mayfield will tour together this winter, playing 13 shows in the eastern United States.

Growing up in Kent, Ohio, the Mayfields were surrounded by bluegrass and folk music.  Both David and Jessica first performed with their family band One Way Rider, traveling across the country in a 1956 tour bus once belonging to Bill Monroe, Kitty Wells, and Ernest Tubb.  David began performing at age 12, while Jessica joined a few years later at age 8.  Most of their time growing up was spent singing and absorbing the stories and lessons taught by veteran musicians.

By the time he was a teenager, David had won several national awards for his guitar and mandolin playing.  He showed Jessica how to play a few guitar chords, and then she began writing her own songs at age 11.  The two played open mic nights together, usually playing for tips.  Then David got his first big break when he successfully auditioned for country artist Andy Griggs, which led to David’s first appearance on the legendary Grand Ole Opry stage.

When David was 21 and Jessica was 15, they recorded Jessica’s first EP White Lies in David’s bedroom, printing only 100 copies.  One of those copies fell into the hands of Dan Auerbach (The Black Keys).  After an introduction, Jessica and Auerbach hit the studio, laying the foundation for her debut album With Blasphemy So Heartfelt, on which David played bass.

Over the next two years, David continued to play bass with Jessica, as she toured incessantly in support of With Blasphemy, playing major festivals like Bonnaroo, and opening for bands like The Avett Brothers, with whom they forged a strong friendship.

During this time, David also toured as a vocalist, songwriter, and lead guitarist for the folk rock band Cadillac Sky, but it was while on the road with Jessica that the Avetts encouraged David to make a record of his own, and so he did.  David released his solo debut The David Mayfield Parade in 2011, which features songs co-written with Jessica, and vocals from Scott and Seth Avett.

Also in 2011, Nonesuch Records signed Jessica and released her second album Tell Me, also produced by Dan Auerbach.  The album received rave reviews from The New York Times, Rolling Stone, SPIN, and Pitchfork, among others, and led to Jessica’s network television debut on The Late Show with David Letterman.  Later that year, the Americana Music Association nominated Jessica as “Best New Artist.”

Now, with new albums on the horizon from both David and Jessica, the two siblings hit the road together again.

T. Hardy Morris
These songs were actually inspired by my honeymoon. My new bride and I had very little money to spend and I had coincidentally been asked by some friends in the band Bad Books to do a short tour in the Northeast, starting with a few days in NYC. I had never really played solo before, and certainly not in front of big crowds, but I had a handful of back-pocket songs and I knew that this was probabl
y our only way to have a honeymoon, so that is what we did. The shows went well, but I quickly realized that writing songs that can carry weight on their own, without a band in mind, takes a totally different approach. As soon as I got home, I wrote and demoed about 20 songs with that feel and idea in mind. Although I planned on having more instrumentation involved in the eventual recording of the songs, I wrote the initial songs as ones that could be played alone.

After several years of growing acclaim on the New York Americana scene, Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Mary Bragg reached a peak in her early career last year when she attracted overflow crowds for a residency at NYC's famed venue The Living Room. Drawing comparisons to Patty Griffin and Mindy Smith, Bragg has come to inhabit her own unique fusion of American musical forms, clearly heard and felt on Tattoos and Bruises.

CARL ANDERSON
In August of 2011, 23-year-old Carl Anderson set out to fund his debut album through Kickstarter. As the days rolled by and the funding stalled out at less than a quarter of his stated goal, Carl’s “Dream Record” project seemed forever doomed to remain a dream. With 10 days and thousands of dollars to go, he was given the opportunity to promote his project on Charlottesville’s community radio station. After playing a handful of acoustic songs to a radio audience, his Kickstarter campaign gained new life. He raised a thousand dollars on that day and exceeded his fundraising goal 10 days later. Wolftown is the result of years of songwriting, heartbreak, and a nailbiter of a capital campaign. Carl Anderson threw his CD release party at The Southern Cafe and Music Hall in downtown Charlottesville, his first show as a headliner and his first sellout. Wolftown was met with immediate critical success. It was selected as CD of the Month for January, 2012 by Virginia’s WNRN FM.
