Is Pinterest the most effective Social Media ever? 16 April City Hotel
Event on 2013-04-16 18:00:00
The world staggered in amazement in early 2012 when Facebook threw down a billion dollars to snatch Instagram from the desperately gnashing teeth of Google. But the owners of Instagram weren't the only people who partied long that night. This purchase showed that being a new kid on the social media block was no impediment to rapidly taking centre-stage alongside Facebook, Twitter and Linked In. Indeed Pinterest, which has recently launched Pinterest Web Analytics to illustrate its impressive statistics, has been valued at .7 billion by Forbes. Why is Pinterest so compelling? Is it because Pinterest is to artful images what Twitter is to artful words? Indeed Twitter, which values itself at billion but which is being hobbled by a migration of focus to Instagram, is in danger of not only being eclipsed by Pinterest's financial evaluation, but also Pinterest's traffic stats. Appealing to college educated females age 25 to 44, a sweet demographic for retailers if ever there was one, Pinterest also boasts average monthly usage of 89 minutes compared to just 21 minutes for Twitter. Is it the laziest yet most effective social media ever?
STEWART DAWES, director of Atomic Digital Media, a boutique SEO and social media agency he started after a career in magazine publishing. Stewart's online adventure began when he published a guide to Sydney cafes way back in 1999 which ranked its socks off on Google and gave him years of insights into the mind of this search engine monster. Inspired by what he observed to step full-time into SEO, clients who found dramatic ROI from search engine rankings started asking him to develop their social media presences. By 2009 he was in therapy for an addiction to Twitter as its openness appealed to his niche media instincts and hunger for a crowd. Two further addictions lay ahead – Instagram and Pinterest – Pinterest with the added intrigue of its compatibility with search engines.
We are delighted to have Stewart presenting this talk on Pinterest for our April event.
