DOVE AWARD NOMINEE, NYT BEST-SELLING AUTHOR TO HEADLINE LAKELAND SHOW
LAKELAND, NOVEMBER 7, 2014 –
Four-time Dove Award nominee John Mark McMillan will take the stage at the historic Polk Theatre, where Elvis Presley performed, on Friday, November 7, as the featured artist at J.A.M.: “A Rock of All Ages!” The theater is located at 121 S. Florida Avenue.
From the very beginning of his career, McMillan's music has defied easy categorization. A singer-songwriter as interested in musical exploration as lyrical exploration, he carved his own path from the outset. In 2010, he was nominated for the Dove Awards' New Artist of the Year; Worship Song of the Year for "How He Loves"; and Rock/Contemporary Album of the Year for The Medicine. With the release of his fourth studio project earlier this year, Borderland, McMillan has staked a claim in the no-man's land of contemporary life, intent on finding heaven there. The Kickstarter-funded album debuted at No. 4 on Billboard's Top Christian Album Chart, No. 41 on the Top 200, and No. 1 on iTunes' Christian & Gospel chart. A song from the album, “Future/Past,” is currently nominated for the Dove Awards’ Worship Song of the Year.
McMillan is joined on the program by acclaimed author Kevin Malarkey, whose first book, The Boy Who Came Back from Heaven, spent 8 weeks on the New York Times best-seller list in 2010. Malarkey is a Christian therapist from Columbus, Ohio. The Boy Who Came Back from Heaven chronicles his son Alex's experiences following a car accident in 2004. Malarkey’s second book, A Beautiful Defeat, released in July, teaches readers that the key to unlocking their potential and experiencing the sense of peace and purpose they crave is nothing less than total surrender to God.
Malarkey will be joined by J.A.M. founder Jennifer Alden at Lakeland's Family Christian Store for a book signing on Wednesday, November 5, from 4-6 p.m. Alden will be signing her latest release, The World As We Know It.
On Nov. 7, the doors will open at 6 p.m. for a meet & greet and Q & A with the authors. The show will be emceed by WTIS radio personality & Christian comedian Pete OShea. The event features a short film by Lakeland’s Deffit Red Productions; music by local worship bands Jeremy Hearn & eleven20 of Lakeland and Tampa's EverBurn G.g. Borrego, Jimmy Borrego, Jason Young & Brian Raymond. Rounding out the line-up are speakers Deborah Yoerg, founder of Crowns for Christ, and Ashley Schroeder.

Jennifer Alden, founder of Jennifer Alden Ministries, a native of Vero Beach, Florida, has always had a strong connection to the ocean. After living in Central Florida for many years, Alden felt a call to return to the coast. She relocated to Bradenton, where she wrote her first book, He Called Me to the Ocean. Since her first publication, Jennifer wrote 6 more books, including a three-part poetic literary series and a daily devotional. She credits much of her inspiration to the life and ministry of her late grandfather, Rev. Clifton H. White, former rector of Lakeland's All Saints' Episcopal Church (1953-1978).
Alden's desire is to help others live without fear or anxiety; to understand their purpose in life and to know what steps they can take to fulfill this purpose. Through her writing and by sharing her own personal stories, she hopes to reach out to those who need encouragement to keep going, regardless of their circumstances or obstacles.
“Through this journey in life, I have experienced many miraculous events. My family has experienced signs and wonders that I truly felt compelled to write about. I want to give hope to anyone who may need it that there is more after we leave here.” Alden says.
