  1. Re: HTML not being a complete language…yes that is fair enough. Neither is SQL, depending on whose definition you choose. In my role both are must-haves.

  2. Sorry for being pedantic, but I thought HTML is not strictly a programming language. R is an interesting choice… ahh, an economist, now it makes sense. I get the last four, considering your situation, but why the javascript? In my situation, (lethalsub scratches his head) – C, python, perl, javascript… brainfuck (no, seriously, it depends on your situation).

  3. “I didn’t pretend to know the answer… I don’t.” Fair enough, I must have misunderstood. “However, I still support my question of “Who cares?” because no one cares…” Go and say that to someone who helps develop programming languages.

  4. I didn’t pretend to know the answer… I don’t. However, I still support my question of “Who cares?” because no one cares (except you, I assume, since you asked).

  5. As he says, the Top 5 depends on your situation. Javascript I agree with. But where I am, the other 4 would be SQL / HTML / Visual Basic / R.

  6. Yeah but I wasn’t talking about “computer science” Fortran is a relatively modern invention when looking at all of human history, but it isn’t a modern programming language.
