In addition, as part of a campaign to help people with these issues, the company said it would make a donation to the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness.
According to the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness, celiac disease is an autoimmune digestive disease that damages the villi of the small intestine and interferes with absorption of nutrients from food. The launch of the LoveToKnow Gluten Free channel results from the company’s recognition of the problems faced by the growing number of people who are gluten intolerant. Almost three million Americans across all races, age groups and genders have celiac disease, yet it’s estimated that 95% are either undiagnosed or misdiagnosed with other conditions.
The LoveToKnow Gluten Free channel provides a variety of content including celiac disease symptoms the effect of gluten on behavior, an overview of what foods contain gluten, and many other original content items from LoveToKnow’s expert writers. The channel also contains links to related diet plans and suggested recipes, and information about getting professional help and guidance for living without gluten.
LoveToKnow.com user traffic will determine the amount donated to the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness. The company will donate one penny per hundred page visits in the month of May to the non-profit. A visit is recorded every time a new user views a page on LoveToKnow.com, and regular traffic averages more than 11 million visitors per month for the site. LoveToKnow has donated to many worthwhile charities; recent recipients have included World Vision, American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life and Hope for Haiti.
