Break away from your desk to visit an amazing studio and listen to local design leaders present original perspectives that will inspire, shift or interrupt your relationship with the design space. Join us for the last Lunch Box of 2015 at Killer Infographics. Visual Communications: The Industry For decades, the term "visual communications" had been used to broadly encompass all forms of graphic design, but over the past 5 years a shift has happened leading to an entire industry claiming the label as theirs. What is the visual communications industry and how does it differ from other forms of graphic design? Amy Balliett, CEO and co-founder of Killer Infographics will explain why these changes occurred, the science behind visual storytelling, and how to succeed in this emerging new world of design. Amy Balliett is the CEO and co-founder of Killer Infographics, a Seattle-based industry leader in visual communication. She owned her first company, a candy store and ice cream parlor, at the age of 17 before heading off for college. She subsequently built a successful career in SEO and marketing, and has headed up SEO at several companies. In 2009, she partnered with Nick Grant to build lead-gen-based websites, but in the fall of 2010, the business pivoted to an entirely new model: infographic design. In the five years since, Killer Infographics has designed more than 4,000 infographics, motion graphics, and interactive graphics for over 300 clients around the globe, including Microsoft, Boeing, Adobe, Nikon, Starbucks, the National Endowment for the Arts, the United Nations, and more.
