Mobile billing platform Mogees announced the completed acquisition of BerryStore, an on-device app store for the RIM platform. Launched in 2008, BerryStore is now the leading independent on-device app store for BlackBerry applications. BlackBerry users can use the BerryStore application to browse, download, purchase, and review hundreds of available applications straight from their BlackBerry device. The number of applications available through BerryStore should increase significantly with the newly unveiled ability to distribute paid apps.
With the acquisition of BerryStore, Mogees now offers a solution for BlackBerry developers that includes distribution and billing. BlackBerry developers can list their applications on BerryStore as free, demo, trial, or paid. Trial and paid applications are powered by the Mogees mobile billing platform. Mogees released their Payment SDK for the BlackBerry earlier this year.
Compared with other independent BlackBerry application stores, BerryStore offers developers an industry leading payout rate of 80% to sell their applications. It is free to submit applications to BerryStore. Developers can list applications for free, or sell applications at prices as low as $ 0.99. The $ 0.99 price point enables more casual developers to also sell their applications, which would be difficult at the $ 2.99 minimum price enforced by the yet-to-be-launched BlackBerry App World.
Mogees was founded by early employees of PayPal, a popular online payment service acquired by eBay. Launched in 2008, Mogees provides a mobile billing solution for mobile application developers. Mogees also runs the Mogees Reward Points program for consumers and the Mogees Reward Network for developers. More information about Mogees can be found at http://www.mogees.com.
