Ohio Law Firm Slater & Zurz LLP Notes C8 Water Contamination in Mid-Ohio River Valley Has Makings of a Hollywood Movie

(PRWEB) December 27, 2012

There have been several Hollywood movies released with story lines that go something like this:

A big companys manufacturing facility releases chemicals into the environment over a period of many years without the complete knowledge of the general public. Eventually, the children and adults who either worked at the facility or lived in close proximity start to get sick. Life-threatening diseases like cancer plaque communities surrounding the manufacturing plant and someone starts asking why. The movies story unfolds with heroes, villains, suspense and drama.

The Ohio law of Slater & Zurz LLP says a similar story is developing in the Mid-Ohio River Valley region near Parkersburg, West Virginia. Pursuant to various news reports from The Athens News and The Charleston Gazette, Duponts Washington Works Manufacturing Plant located just southwest of Parkersburg released a chemical known as C8 into the air and the Ohio River starting in the 1950s. The dangerous chemical gradually contaminated public drinking water supplies by entering the regions groundwater. Testing detected C8 in six different water districts surrounding DuPonts manufacturing facility.

As a result of the contamination, a scientific panel was formed in 2005 to study the health effects of C8 on people. Since that time, the C8 Scientific Panel has issued reports linking C8 to kidney cancer, testicular cancer, thyroid disease, ulcerated colitis (a type of inflammatory bowel disease) and high cholesterol. Pursuant to a news report published in The Huntington Herald-Dispatch on October 29, 2012, the C8 Science Panel has recently completed their studies on probable links between C8 and health conditions in humans. The C8 Science Panel Probable Link Reports can be viewed by visiting the website: http://www.c8sciencepanel.org

Cases of Ohioans suffering from the health conditions listed by the C8 Scientific Panel are surfacing. A December 9, 2012 news article published by The Athens News reports how alleged victims and their families are taking action by filing lawsuits in Ohio courts seeking justice for their injuries and damages.
