Poverty Awareness Events to Aid Local Community and Children

The Mooresville/Lake Norman Christian Mission has announced two major fundraisers for this fall. The 6th Annual Faces of Hope Benefit will be held November 16, 2013 from 6-10 p.m. at the Charles Mack Citizen Center and the 5K Turkey Trot will be held on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 28 beginning at 8:30 a.m.

The Faces of Hope Benefit is a Hollywood Glam-inspired fundraising event to celebrate the success and community support of the Mission. Featuring an elegant buffet dinner and fine wine, attendees will be treated to Sinatra-inspired entertainment and dancing, and witness the Getting Ahead graduation ceremony where graduates will share their inspiring stories of overcoming poverty. A silent-auction will also be held where attendees will be able to bid on items such as restaurant gift cards, art, sports activities and other merchandise.

Tickets for the Faces of Hope Benefit are $ 40 per person, or $ 300 for a table of 8. Tickets can be purchased by visiting comedancewithme.eventbrite.com. Donations to the silent auction can also be made by contacting Heather Halbedl at heatherhadlbedl(at)yahoo(dot)com.

The Turkey Trot is a fun, family event that raises awareness for poverty and hunger on a day typically renowned for feasting. A Kids Fun Run begins the event at 8:30 with the 5K beginning at 9 a.m. The 5K course is USATF certified and prizes will be awarded to the top 3 runners or each gender and the top runners by age categories. Registration is $ 25 if done on or before November 18. Register at http://www.sportoften.com. The race will begin at the Mission’s parking lot – 266 N. Broad Street, Mooresville. Nearly 700 runners participated in 2012 and expectations are for 1000 runners in 2013.
