For 27 hours from April 24 to 26th at the 2013, CajunCodeFest 2.0 put on by the Center for Business & Information Technologies (CBIT) at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. The 2012 event boasted 275 attendees. This year, teams featuring the best and the brightest software engineers, students, entrepreneurs and healthcare professionals will compete to create the best application to transform a provided data set into an innovative health care solution. The State of Louisiana is leading the charge to leverage available innovative technologies and analytics to find new ways to raise the ranking of Louisiana in Americas Health Rankings.
For 2013, the focus will be encouraging patients to Own Their Own Health and these teams will be working their innovative magic to analyze the data set to create new health care solutions that will allow patients to be engaged with their health. The core data that serves as the basis for the CajunCodeFest had to be de-identified before it could be released to the entrants in the challenge. The HIPAA Privacy Rules for safeguarding Protected Health Information (PHI) require that the likelihood of a re-identification be very small when data is disclosed for secondary purposes such as the CajunCodeFest. It would not have been possible to have the coding challenge without properly de-identified data.
