According to the BBC News Wales article anti-human trafficking charities have warned a job set up to tackle the problem of children being moved around Wales for sexual exploitation needs more power and lacks independence. In 2011 Wales were the first country to appoint an anti-human trafficking coordinator. Part of the role, filled at the moment by Stephen Chapman, is to help professionals, including police, councils, health service providers and voluntary organisations, identify and intervene in cases.
However the report goes on to say that the Welsh anti-human trafficking forum feel the role is too closely aligned to the Welsh government to be effective.
Barbara Natasegara, chief executive of Safer Wales, told BBC Wales: I think the post needs to have teeth. I dont think its really got those teeth at the moment.
According to the report human trafficking is now the second most prevalent crime worldwide after drugs. Private Investigators London believes that the Welsh governments initiative in setting up this job is an excellent starting point in the move to clamp down on the illegal trafficking in Wales. This private detective in London has experience in human trafficking cases and has provided investigation services. This together with the police has helped victims of this horrendous crime.
Spokesperson from Private Investigators London, Diane Chivers said:
In my professional opinion human trafficking is a despicable crime filled with deception, violation of human rights, coercion and violence among other things. Anything that can be done to stop this from happening or that can help the victims who fall foul to it, should only be praised.
