In its 7th year, ROAR charity is still motivated by its core belief that; "Education is the basis of sustainable development. Therefore, our mission is to continue to raise funds and improve educational outcomes for orphaned and disadvantaged children in rural areas of Rwanda."
ROAR is the brainchild of Rwandan born Lily Nyamwasa. An inspiring woman who escaped from the horrors of civil war in her country, Lily settled in Australia in 1995, and in appreciation of her change in fortune, later formed ROAR Charity. Living in Australia, Lily wanted to give back to her home land and empower the most vulnerable members of the community – its children.
"I believe the best gift you can give a child is love and care. Equally, education gives them a sense of freedom, self-reliance and helps broaden their knowledge. In the past 8 years, we have helped more than 1000 children that attend Linganwe School. We have bought them school uniforms, school materials, shoes and healthcare cards. We are committed to raising enough funds to build a well to enable the kids to gain access to clean drinking water" said Lily Nyamwasa, President of ROAR Inc.
The 2011 event raised over ,000 and brought to fruition ROAR's 2 year dream of building water tanks on the premises of the School. This has profoundly enhanced the lives of not only the children attending the school but those from the surrounding villages.
