Getting Started with Search Engine Optimisation

Research has consistently shown that the majority of traffic to organisations websites is driven by search.* Make sure that your site is optimised to give it best chance of ranking highly in search results.  

This beginner/intermediate level session will include an overview of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) basics plus a practical top-line SEO audit of participants’ own websites.

  • Understanding search engines
  • Competitor benchmarking
  • Keyword research
  • Walkthrough: a basic audit of your site
  • Common SEO issues
  • Some useful SEO tools
  • Content and link-building

AmbITion Scotland workshops are held in small groups, offering hands-on tuition and one-to-one support from the most knowledgeable practitioners in the business.


  • Laptop computer with wireless connectivity
  • Access to the Google Webmaster Tools account for your site will be useful but not essential


Trainer: David Craik

David Craik of Bright Signals has more than a decade of experience with applied digital marketing. 

He works with digital start-ups and SMEs, including cultural organisations such as Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and The National Piping Centre. 

David was previously Head of Marketing at s1, where he helped grow the business from start-up to become Scotland's most successful digital media brand, winning more than 40 marketing awards, including being first runner up Young Marketer of the Year.
