Livingstone (PRWEB UK) 30 January 2013
International IT services company, Atos, is playing its part in the search for up to 15,000 volunteers for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
More than 10,000 people registered their applications for volunteer roles on the online portal within the first 12 hours of it going live and there are 30 days left before applications close.
Atos – the Games Management Systems and Games Information Systems Official Supporter for Glasgow 2014 – is providing a bespoke online portal which is handling the thousands of applications for volunteer roles being submitted following the launch of the Games recruitment drive on Monday (14 January 2013).
The online site, powered by Atos, will help support the Glasgow 2014 recruitment and selection process – from matching skills to specific roles, providing regular communication on the progress of applications, issuing invitations for interviews, and the rostering and timetabling of those selected to be a volunteer including their accreditation.
Atos Senior Vice President in Scotland, Gavin Thomson, said: The momentum around Glasgow 2014 is building day-by-day and the Games have the potential to make a huge impact on Scotland during 2014. Its exciting to be playing a role in the first opportunity for everyone to play their part in making the Games an outstanding success for Glasgow and Scotland.
We believe our experience and expertise in working with multiple Olympic Games Organising Committees for more than 10 years, as well as other major events around the world, will be a real benefit to Glasgow 2014.
Based on our experience of having built the online volunteer portal for London 2012, we are proud that the Glasgow 2014 online portal has been successfully delivered and is keeping volunteers informed of how their application is progressing.
The contribution of the Games Makers during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games was extremely successful and Glasgow 2014 are seeking its own volunteers to help deliver the largest sporting and cultural event ever hosted in Scotland.
Applicants have until Thursday 28 February 2013 to complete their online line form at http://www. glasgow2014.com/volunteer, and need to be 16 or over to apply, be eligible to work in the UK and must be available for at least eight days during the Games themselves between 23 July and 3 August in 2014.
No previous experience is necessary for the majority of roles with the emphasis on finding people who are friendly, welcoming and dedicated to making the Games a success.
Those suited to more specialist roles can list their skills on the online form while there is a wide range of general volunteering opportunities in areas such as Transport, Spectator Services and Sport Competition.
David Grevemberg, Glasgow 2014 Chief Executive, said: We have been delighted by the initial response to our call for volunteers for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. I am happy to say that the volunteering spirit is definitely alive and well and more than 10,000 people applied within the first 12 hours.
Volunteers will be at the heart of an unforgettable Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and the huge enthusiasm of those who have taken to social media to express their excitement and interest to volunteer has been overwhelming.
The opening of applications on Monday was a landmark moment for us but dont worry if you have still to apply, the window is open until 28 February and all applications will be considered then. Dont just watch the Games, this is your chance to BE the Games and have the time of your life putting Glasgow, Scotland and the Commonwealth on the world stage.
