The SEO course is one in a series of Auburn College’s short courses designed to aid the start-up or small business, personal blogger, social enterprise, or marketing department of an intermediate sized business optimize their e-marketing activities. Just as you’re not recognized as a legitimate business without a website, there’s little point in having a website if your potential customers can’t find you in search engine results. That’s where SEO (search engine optimization) comes in. The course progresses from the fundamentals of SEO; how search engines works; how to optimize your search engine results; how to increase your “hits” at no cost; how to avoid the pitfalls of being deemed a spamming site; and, then hands-on practical applications of what you’ve learned, e.g. you’ll start optimizing your websites search engine results before you leave the class! This course will be of benefit to people who get marketing and promotional activities added to their overall responsibilities, but who don’t have e-marketing backgrounds. As this short course teaches the essential basics of SEO, it’s a great course to use in building effective in-house marketing teams. After this course, your site may not go viral, but you will be more visible by those looking for your product, service, or blogging subject. This is especially true of those searching in your geographical area. E-marketing can no longer be left out of any businesses’ marketing strategy. When you finish the course you’ll have the fundamental tools to optimize your website’s presence on the web and your search engine results. Course Dates: Second week of October; Wednesday, 14th – 10:00am to 03:00pm Second week of November; Wednesday, 11th – 10:00am to 03:00pm Second week of December; Wednesday, 9th – 10:00am to 03:00pm Additional entry requirements Basic knowledge of computer browsers such as Internet Explorer, Google, or Opera; Microsoft Word software or equivalent such as OpenOffice.org; English skills at level B or higher of the CEF (Common European Framework) guide; An email address that’s connected to or used for your website; A laptop is not required. However, if you have one you’ll want to bring it so you can bookmark key pages in your preferred browser. If you don’t have a laptop a college computer will be supplied.
