Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) September 11, 2012
Cumberland Academy of Georgia, Inc., a SACS-CASI accredited, private, special needs school in Atlanta, welcomes back students for the 2012-2013 school year. In our 5th Anniversary, we are excited to see our new and returning students and families. We have had a great beginning so far and look forward to an incredible year, says Debbi Scarborough, Headmaster and Founder. Cumberland Academy of Georgia continues to receive a tremendous response to the school as the need for an alternative to traditional education and home schooling for students with Autism, ADD, ADHD, and other learning differences grows. The academy increased its faculty 30% over last year in an effort to continue to offer a variety of subjects, while maintaining a low student-to-teacher ratio.
Several exciting classes, including Robotics, Chess Club, Rock Band, Drama, Persuasive Speaking, and Technology, are offered along with a traditional and challenging academic curriculum. In addition, students will visit Young Chefs Academy each week to learn meal planning and preparation, math skills, and essential team building skills. They will also visit a restaurant each week to enhance their social skills and reinforce manners. The academy continues to offer both junior varsity and varsity athletic programs which include soccer, basketball, and track. This year Cumberland Academy of Georgia is excited to partner with Georgia Perimeter College and offer dual enrollment for juniors and seniors who can earn college credit before graduation. The school will also continue to participate in the Annual GISA Unit Spelling Bee. And, Cumberland is one of 18 schools in Georgia with an on-campus Labitat (customized miniature trout hatchery) that houses approximately 1100 trout eggs, which the students will grow to fingerling size and release back into the environment this November.
Field trips have been scheduled throughout the year as well, including Cumberlands annual fall white water rafting trip down the Nantahala River, and a three day adventure trip in the spring. December 14, 2012 will mark a special day as the school will have a student-faculty basketball game, in which a professional athlete (a surprise guest!) will visit and compete with the students in a hard fought out game of one-on-one.
There are so many incredible opportunities for students to learn, experience, and thrive at Cumberland Academy of Georgia. The school provides a tailored learning experience for students with Aspergers Syndrome, High Functioning Autism, Learning Disabilities and ADD/ADHD. Cumberland Academy of Georgia is fully accredited and addresses the students’ academic, emotional and social concerns through nurturing, innovative and challenging programs.
