Along with Simon & Garfunkel and The Everly Brothers, Amy Ray and Emily Saliers rank at the very top of all-time great duos. The sublime music-making-machine-skewering “Making Promises” is one of their finest rockers.– The Boston Herald

Their 14th studio album finds the Indigo Girls operating as powerfully as at any time in their career, on a set of uncommonly strong songs performed with the kind of typically understated Nashville polish that affords their signature harmonies the full spotlight.
– The Independent (UK)

Twenty years after they began releasing records as the Indigo Girls, Amy Ray and Emily Saliers have politely declined the opportunity to slow down with age. With a legacy of releases and countless U.S. and international tours behind them, the Indigo Girls have forged their own way in the music business. Selling over 14 million records, they are still going strong. Amy & Emily are the only duo with top 40 titles on the Billboard 200 in the ’80s, ’90s, ’00s and ’10s.
After signing to Epic Records in 1988, the Indigo Girls released their critically acclaimed eponymous album to thunderous praise; it remained on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart for 35 weeks, earned double platinum status, received a Grammy nomination for “Best New Artist” and won “Best Contemporary Folk Recording.” They were overnight folk icons who continued to live up to the high standards they’d set for themselves: they’ve since released 14 albums (3 platinum and 3 gold), received six Grammy nominations and have won one. Indigo Girls have toured with innumerable star acts including Neil Young, Emmylou Harris, Joan Baez, R.E.M., Sarah MacLachlan, Natalie Merchant, Jewel and Mary Chapin Carpenter.

The duo has balanced their long, successful musical career by supporting numerous social causes – the Indigo Girls don’t just talk the talk; they walk the walk.  Having established an intensely dedicated fan base, the duo continues to remain relevant and attract new fans. With their latest release, Beauty Queen Sister, released on IG Recordings distributed by Vanguard Records, Emily Saliers and Amy Ray have secured their spot as one of the most legendary musical acts of this generation.

In 2015 Indigo Girls released their 16th studio album, One Lost Day, produced by Jordan Brooke Hamlin and mixed by Brian Joseph.Amythyst Kiah

A professed Southern Gothic songster based in Johnson City, TN, Amythyst Kiah’s commanding stage presence is only matched by her raw and powerful vocals—a deeply moving, hypnotic sound that stirs echoes of a distant and restless past. A graduate of East Tennessee State University, she studied old time music and music performance, and it proved to be a pivotal moment in her life as she transformed from a long-time closet musician into a well-rounded, captivating performer.

Accoutered interchangeably with banjo, acoustic guitar, or a full band (Her Chest of Glass), Amythyst’s toolbox is augmented by her scholarship of African-American roots music. Her eclectic influences span decades, drawing heavily on old time music (Mississippi Sheiks, Son House, Jimmie Rodgers, Olla Belle Reed, Carter Family), inspired by strong R&B and country music vocalists from the ’50s-’70s (Big Mama Thornton, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Mahalia Jackson, Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn) and influenced by contemporary artists with powerful vocal integrity (Adele, Florence and the Machine, Megan Jean and the KFB, Janelle Monae).

Recent tours in Scotland and the U.K. have seen Amythyst performing for audiences at the Americana Music Association UK Showcase, the Southern Fried Festival, Cambridge Folk Festival, the Edinburgh Jazz Festival, and SummerTyne Americana Festival. She is a crowd favorite at Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion in the U.S., has performed at the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, and the Smithsonian Folk Life Festival.

Provocative and coolly fierce, Amythyst Kiah’s ability to cross the boundaries of blues and old-time through reinterpretation is groundbreaking and simply unforgettable.

Baptist Health and MD Anderson Select Design Team for New Joint Cancer Center Facility

Baptist Health and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center are moving forward with the architectural design of the new Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center that will provide a home for highly coordinated, multidisciplinary cancer care for adult patients throughout our region.

HKS Architects Inc., an international company with an office in Orlando, and FreemanWhite, a Haskell Company dedicated exclusively to health care, were selected as the design team for the project, which is anticipated to open in 2018. Haskell is a leading integrated design, engineering and construction firm based in Jacksonville. Both HKS and FreemanWhite have extensive experience in the design of health care facilities, and the two firms collectively have designed nearly 140 cancer centers. Currently, HKS Architects is also designing an expansion of MD Anderson in Houston, Texas.

The new Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center will be part of the Southbank skyline, visible from I-95, and a symbol of our powerful commitment to bring a new level of cancer care to our region, said Hugh Greene, Baptist Health president and CEO. Every aspect of the facility will be designed around the unique needs of cancer patients and their caregivers.

The same cutting-edge technology, multidisciplinary approach and leading cancer care that is available in Houston will be delivered at Baptist MD Anderson in Jacksonville when it launches later this year. The design of the facility will reflect the highly collaborative and integrated approach to care which brings medical, surgical and radiation oncology physicians together to plan and deliver the patients treatment as one coordinated team. Social workers, dietitians, physical and occupational therapists, plastic and reconstructive surgeons, and pharmacists are among the many specialists who will all work within the cancer center, providing patients with one home to meet all their oncology needs.

Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center is an opportunity to create a facility that will be a legacy for subsequent generations. With this iconic cancer center, Baptist Health will demonstrate the challenge and opportunities for discovery inherent in 21st Century cancer care, according to Carl Beers, principal of HKS Architects Inc., and Frank Brooks, CEO of Freeman White, a Haskell Company. Through the power of architecture, the new building will be a powerful symbol of commitment to empower the cancer patient. HKS and FreemanWhite are excited to be a part of the team.

The design process for the new Baptist MD Anderson facility will begin this month and is expected to be completed by February 2016. In addition to leveraging the architectural firms long history of health and cancer care experience, the process will include visioning sessions with Baptist Health and MD Anderson leadership, the medical team and the community.

The new building will be located on San Marco Boulevard, across the street from the Baptist Outpatient Center, situated on the two blocks currently bordered by San Marco Boulevard, Childrens Way, Gary Street and Palm Avenue. The new building is anticipated to be more than 200,000 square feet with a dedicated 500-car parking garage and valet service for ease of patient access. Beautiful landscaping will blend with and enhance the surrounding neighborhood. Project cost has not yet been determined.

In anticipation of the launch of the joint cancer program with MD Anderson in October 2015, Baptist Health has started renovating the Baptist Outpatient Center on San Marco, which will serve as the initial home of Baptist MD Anderson.

It is important to say that we are building upon a foundation constructed by talented clinicians here in Jacksonville who soon will have greater access to the resources, facilities and equipment which will allow them to provide the same high quality of cancer care as MD Anderson provides in Houston, said John Wilbanks, Baptist Health chief operating officer and executive vice president.
