Join The Optical Society as we celebrate our 100th anniversary with the Light The Future speaker series featuring distinguished scientists, engineers and Nobel Laureates. Ray Kurzweil, inventor, author, futurist, will give a public presentation on 'Business and Society in the Age of Accelerating Returns' at CLEO, Wednesday, 8 June 2016, moderated by Steven Chu, Nobel Laureate, former U.S. Secretary of Energy, OSA Fellow, OSA Honorary Member.

The 21st century is an era in which the very nature of what it means to be human will be both enriched and challenged, as our species breaks the shackles of its genetic legacy, and achieves inconceivable heights of intelligence, material progress, and longevity. While the social and philosophical ramifications of these changes will be profound, and the threats they pose considerable, celebrated futurist Ray Kurzweil presents an inspiring vision of our ultimate destiny in which we will merge with our machines, can radically extend our lives, and are vastly more intelligent.

Ray Kurzweil has been described as “the ultimate thinking machine” by Forbes, and Inc. magazine ranked him #8 among entrepreneurs in the United States, calling him the “rightful heir to Thomas Edison.” He is considered one of the world’s leading futurists, having predicted the age of mobile computing, digital books, wearables, self-driving cars and high-speed wireless data transmission. With a 30-year track record of accurate predictions, Kurzweil is currently heading up a team developing machine intelligence and natural language understanding as a Director of Engineering at Google.

Digital Future of Sport

Digital Future of Sport
Event on 2015-10-21 08:30:00
The 2015 Digital Future of Sport conference will place at Dublin's Smock Alley Theatre on Wednesday, October 21st. This year's event is being supported by Epsilon, the global agency with it's EMEA Headquarters here in Dublin and which combines data and creative services for some of the world's leading business and sporting brands. We have brought together a top class line up of experts from Ireland and around the world to make sure you stay right on top of your game when it comes to the future of sport. This is a morning that will deliver for rights holders, commercial sponsors, agencies and media. It's a morning that will deliver for you but places are limited. The morning will look like this: 0830 Registration and Networking 0915 Brand Matters  How a number of the biggest brands supporting sport are looking to digital to activate their relationship with sport and fans 1000 It's in the Game A panel of Irish companies making waves at national and international level with sports based gaming and engagement with fans featuring Trevor Keane from SportEgo and Ciaran Davies from Sportscarver 1030 The Future of Content  The rapidly evolving world of content marketing in sport with Denis Crushell from Tubular Labs and James Toney from Sportsbeat, two UK companies leading the way in this key area. 1100 Networking Break 1130 Integration of the Information – How to make the most of the big events 1210 Fan Centric Marketing in the Digital Age Knowing and understanding a fanbase is going to become ever more crucial for all the stakeholders in sport. Rights holders need to develop deeper relationships with their fans and engage with fans they know, and maybe more importantly, those that they don’t know. On the other side of the fence, sponsors are going to demand more from a rights holder relationship than brand awareness or association. The growing priority for a sponsor is access to a fanbase that they can then start to monetise. In this presentation Rob Quick from Epsilon Sports will use inside examples from the NFL, Rugby and a range of other sports and events to highlight why knowing and growing your fanbase is the key to a successful commercial future for sport and sponsorship 1300 Close and light lunch There will be opportunity to network with fellow leaders in sport and business and to see what the future holds for rights holders, teams, fans and commercial partners. Places are limited and this event has sold out when staged for the first time last year.
