Comal Independent School District Kicks Off ATRS Clothing & Shoe Recycling Drive for December

This month the Comal Independent School District kicks off a 22 school wide clothing and shoe recycling fundraiser with American Textile Recycling Service (ATRS). Students, teachers, friends and family from each school will bring gently used, outgrown, out of season and unwanted clothes, shoes, toys and household textiles for recycling to benefit charitable programs and services.

Comal ISD and ATRS have partnered to create a strong cross marketing campaign using technology to educate students about the importance of textile recycling. Public Service Announcements are playing on the hallway monitors at each school facility, reminders appear on the schools’ online portals and social media posts highlight the types of items suitable for donation.

The Comal ISD Clothing and Shoe Recycling Drive will mark the largest onsite fundraising commitment to date through the ATRS Cares initiative geared at creating unique, easy and convenient funding opportunities for schools, churches and local groups to support charitable programs through textile recycling. Every pound collected from each of the 22 schools will be weighed and will generate revenue for CISD and local charity Center On Independent Living (COIL). The textiles will be graded and sorted by ATRS and categorized for reuse, redistribution or recycling.

“We’re very proud to expand our community fundraising outreach through partnerships with CISD and other school districts in Central Texas,” says Todd Norris ATRS Market Manager in San Antonio, “We are parents too and believe in educating students and inspiring a whole new generation of environmental advocates to protect our earth in the years to come.”
