It was just three years ago that Red Door Entertainment, now known as the Red Door Group, was celebrating its inception in the Tampa Bay area. Beginning as a nightlife and event planning company, over the last few months it has expanded its offering to cover a wide array of marketing, branding, and customer engagement services. This expansion has proven to be an opportunity to allow students from the University of South Florida to take part in the growth of a startup company. The Red Door Group recently launched an internship program beginning with the spring 2013 semester, and it has so far been a success.
The current students participating in the companys internship program range from freshmen to seniors majoring in a wide array of subjects across the marketing discipline. There are many integral positions available for the interns to make a real difference in the company. Several of the projects also deal directly with the clients allowing the students to achieve real experience with business to business marketing. A few of the current interns cover social media, advertising, and public relations. The social media intern, also labeled the Social Media Strategist, will not only create and manage social profiles, but she along with the marketing team will design and implement the customer engagement and social strategies to help the client and the company itself achieve future business and opportunities. The Advertising Strategist is able to work on real media planning and buying campaigns as well as email marketing. The Public Relations Strategist networks with the media and forms the relationships that will not only benefit the PR campaigns for the Red Door Group, but these contacts will stay with the intern for personal use after the internship is completed.
While some administrative duties such as data entry and research are at times necessary to the internships, the Red Door Group gives the students a more rewarding and hands-on experience so they walk away at the end of the semester feeling like they not only received valuable experience but made a real impact on a real business and its operations. With a startup company, the opportunities are endless because some of the processes are still being created as the company grows. This allows the students to see real and measurable growth in a short amount of time. As the Red Door Group grows, it hopes to offer part-time and full-time positions in the company to the most deserving and hard-working individuals.
While the current internship program is geared towards students from the University of South Florida, Ryan Kearns, Owner and Founder of the Red Door Group, hopes to expand the program to surrounding schools like The University of Tampa and St. Leo University. As the company continues to grow, there will be more opportunities to allow students to have the hands-on experience needed in order to help make the most educated decision for future employment after college.
