Fort Worth, Texas (PRWEB) August 27, 2013
The Church Within is conducting a shoe collection drive until October 21 to raise funds for The Church Withins youth group while also benefiting microenterprise ventures in developing nations and keeping old shoes out of local landfills. Individuals can help by donating at The Church Within, 1250 Mansfield Avenue, Fort Worth.
In the US alone, approximately 630 million pairs of shoes are thrown away per year. The materials used to manufacture a pair of shoes are created from chemical compounds, the kind that will create health hazards if left to disintegrate openly or in landfills. By donating old shoes to the The Church Within shoe drive, what would have gone into landfills will be given a second chance to make a difference. All donated shoes will be redistributed through microenterprise partners and used in developing nations for impoverished people to start, maintain and grow an enterprise to feed, clothe and house their families.
We are very excited to be conducting this shoe drive in Fort Worth, notes Michael Winfrey, the youth pastor at The Church Within, “This campaign will raise funds to take our youth group on a fun and educational trip to the Holy Land Experience in Orlando, Florida. The additional advantages of this effort prevent shoes from filling landfills, create commerce through micro enterprise, and sustain peoples lives, making this a win-win-win for everyone, said Winfrey. “Our goal is to collect 30,000 pairs of shoes and the only way we can do that is if people in Fort Worth rally together, so I am inviting everyone in our community to gather up their unwanted shoes and bring them to one of our church.”
Shoe donations can be made at The Church Within, 1250 Mansfield Avenue.
While gently worn shoes are preferred, shoes will be accepted in all conditions. Individuals, businesses and organizations that would like to participate in the shoe drive or host a collection box may contact Michael Winfrey by phone at 817-554-4459 or by email at pastormw(at)yahoo(dot)com.
