The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia September Innovation Breakfast
Event on 2017-09-14 08:00:00
The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia invites you to our next Innovation Breakfast Series event to delve into the topic of High Skill, High Demand, High Wage – “Skills-Based” Education Comes of Age. Today’s skills-based and technical education is cutting-edge, rigorous, and simply excellent at preparing youth and adults for high skill, high paying jobs. There are thousands of open jobs in dozens of career clusters, like IT, cybersecurity, trades, hospitality, life sciences, public safety, tourism, and healthcare. The need is great and opportunity abounds! How has Northern Virginia caught the wave and grown the skills-based and craftsmanship ranks of our workforce, and what role can philanthropy play in encouraging and mentoring the “skill maestros” of tomorrow? This event will be moderated by Linda Odorisio, Former VP of US Communications for CGI, and will include a panel consisting of Beth Downey, Coordinator of Career and Technical Education for Fairfax County Public Schools; Miguel Gòmez-Ibáñez, President of The North Bennet Street School in Boston, MA; Basim Mansour, President of Michael & Son, Inc.; and Dr. R. Scott Ralls, President of Northern Virginia Community College. Registration is and includes a continental breakfast.
