The Forward Wins Prestigious 2007 WebAward For “Best Newspaper Website”

The Forward, America’s most influential Jewish weekly newspaper, has won a prestigious 2007 WebAward for “Best Newspaper Website” from the Web Marketing Association (WMA) for its online news and information Web site, ( Judges noted that the Forward’s site exhibited “excellent balance between content and functionality.”

“This is an extraordinary accolade for our editorial and online teams considering that we bested scores of newspapers from around the world with online sites that have larger staffs, more resources and more traffic,” said Samuel Norich, executive director of the Forward Association and publisher of the Forward.

“Our Web team has done a superlative job introducing and managing our news site since its relaunch as a daily updated news site, earlier this year,” said David Drimer, associate publisher of the Forward. “This WebAward is a fitting tribute to the careful planning and hard work that has been judged as superior according to the web publishing industry’s most rigorous standards.”

WebAwards honor the achievements of the Internet’s top websites and are given annually by the Web Marketing Association, an independent organization created to formally recognize the best sites in 96 industry categories. This year, entries were received from 33 countries. Each site is evaluated on the basis of design, innovation, content, technology, interactivity, copywriting and ease of use, and given a number of points for each category. The highest score in each group wins best Web site of that industry.

The competition judges are distinguished experts from around the world in each field and include advertising executives, members of the media, top Web site designers, content providers and webmasters. Previous winners of the newspaper site category have included (2006), (2005), Christian Science Monitor (2004) and WSJ Online (2003).
