“The Cosmopolitan started a tradition of creating once-in-a-lifetime New Year’s Eve experiences in 2010 and we are thrilled to carry on that tradition in 2012. The combination of The Killers and Red Hot Chili Peppers pairs two must-see performances in one amazing resort,” said Lisa Marchese, Chief Marketing Officer of The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. “The Killers kick off what is bound to be a spectacular New Year’s Eve weekend and we are thrilled that they have chosen The Cosmopolitan as their first Las Vegas show in some time.”
The Killers are a Las Vegas-based four-piece who formed in 2003, featuring the talents of singer/keyboardist Brandon Flowers, drummer Ronnie Vanucci, guitarist Dave Keuning and bassist Mark Stoermer. The band has received countless accolades for their artistic achievement, including multiple Grammy nominations, American Music Award nominations, MTV Video Music Awards, NME Awards, and has sold over fourteen million albums worldwide. Their first album, Hot Fuss, was released in 2004 to worldwide acclaim. The album contained the singles “Mr. Brightside” and “Somebody Told Me,” in addition to the anthemic song “All These Things That I’ve Done.” Their second album, a love letter of sorts to their hometown entitled Sam’s Town, was released in 2006 and spent forty-two weeks on the Billboard Top 200. Their third studio album, Day & Age, was released to widespread critical praise in 2008. The following tour saw the band headlining two of America’s most prestigious festivals, Lollapalooza and Coachella, as well as selling out Madison Square Garden for the third time.
The Killers will release their newest album, Battle Born, in September 2012. Named after the words emblazoned on the Nevada state flag, in addition to sharing its name with the band’s recording studio, Battle Born is everything Killers fans have waited for since the band announced they would be taking a short hiatus at the start of 2010. The album is The Killers at their greatest and was written with the live audience in mind. The guitars are heavier, the drums more powerful, the vocals more commanding – all sounding quintessentially Killers while sounding bigger and better than ever before. One of the most anticipated records of the year, Battle Born is an album that, like its namesake and the band that created it, does not back down from its own strengths.
