The Two Boots Mardi Gras Ball, A Benefit for the Lower Eastside Girls Club
PitchBlak Brass Band
PitchBlak Brass Band is a ten-piece New York City-based group of composers, producers, artists, rappers, strivers, hustlers, and superstars who came together in fall 2010 and have been rocking neighborhoods from Brooklyn to Harlem ever since. Drawing upon its members’ diverse musical backgrounds, styles, and visions, PitchBlak mixes hip-hop and brass to create music that pulses with Afro-Caribbean beats, soaring jazz solos, and mind-melting guitar licks.
Piyali Banerjie is a muralist, artist and facepainter, who uses face and body paint for healing and tribal art shows. She paints a person according to the colors of their spirit, and adorns the paint with gems and feathers. She is also a muralist, and has founded a nonprofit called Conscious Culture, which is a community mural organization that promotes social awareness through city beautification.
Wendy Brackman is an improvisational comic entertainer by nature, a sculptor by training, and a paper wizard by craft. Dubbed, “Wacky Wendy,” she has long dazzled thousands of audiences with her ‘instant’ party hats that she deftly cuts from paper disks in just seconds. Her one-of-a-kind talent is in turning fine art into fun-art, by transforming paper into intricate, clever, personalized, and funny hats, masks, costumes, accessories, displays and anything else.
D.J. Roxy Cottontail
Roxy Summers, better known as Roxy Cottontail, has traveled the world perfecting her signature Cottontail style, while collaborating and breaking eclectic indie talent that might otherwise be overlooked by commercial pop culture. Coming to New York in 1997 with dreams, drive and a tube of lip-gloss, Roxy incorporates her deep roots in punk, dance, electro, house, hip-hop, reggae and rock to make people come together, dance and have a good time. Using her unique flair and style, this budding icon made her national debut hosting dates on Rock the Bells Summer Tour in 2008, followed up with a feature on the cover of URB Magazine and additional features in i-D, The New Yorker, worldwide issues of Time Out, Mix Mag, Warp, BPM, and Spin Magazine that featured Ms. Cottontail in their Top 25 Must-Hear Artists at the 2010 Bamboozle Music Festival in New Jersey alongside bands like Weezer and Paramore. In 2009, Pepsi added Roxy as the first female DJ in the Pepsi DJ Collective, gaining the attention of additional corporate sponsors and clients such as Ray Ban, Calvin Klein, Heineken, and more, leading to event collaborations with industry heavy weights Steve Aoki, DJ AM, Iggy Pop, Benny Benassi, Afrika Bambaataa, Far East Movement and Will.I.Am of the Black Eyed Peas. In July 2011, she will became Sin City’s first imported resident female DJ at The Palms Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. This is adding to the excitement of the recent launch of her Lifestyle Enhancement & Marketing Agency – “Hey Girl Hey” and independent music label, “Bunnyjawn”.

Started by the unstoppable compulsion of two best friends Anya Sapozhnikova and Kae Burke, and fueled by an urge to create not just beautiful, quality entertainment, but potent, and powerful productions Lady Circus combines elements of circus and burlesque to continuously create bigger and better spectacles then before, and has allowed LC to flourish into a force that New York City nightlife simply cannot live without. The creators of LC never forget that circus and performance is not just about the show but also about the family and community that make it possible. They hold very dear that event production and entertainment is first and foremost about human celebration.
EMEFE has only one intention: to play music that frees everybody in the audience, everybody listening at home, and everybody in the band. The band was created by drummer Miles Arntzen in 2009 to explore and share the afrobeat music pioneered in the 1970′s and 80′s by Fela Anikulapo Kuti and carried on today by Antibalas. In the same way that Fela used afrobeat music as a confrontation against corrupt politics, EMEFE uses its music to fight the inner authorities that we put on ourselves, each for our own specific reasons. EMEFE draws heavy influence from the funk music of Sly Stone, James Brown and Earth Wind and Fire, as well as hip hop and neo-soul influences. Mixed with a rock and roll edge, the powerful and exciting EMEFE sound never fails to get audiences jumping. EMEFE hopes to spread awareness of the healing power of music, dancing and smiling, which explains their reputation as one of the most exciting and engaging live bands in New York. EMEFE consists of a drummer, a bassist, 2 guitarists, a keyboardist, two percussionists, and a 4-piece horn section. Members of EMEFE have played with and studied with artists such as Antibalas, Sharon Jones & the Dapkings, Soulive, Charles Bradley, Menahan Street Band, TV on the Radio, Tower of Power, Medeski Martin and Wood, and many more. EMEFE – it’s the way!
Liza was looking to put a band together and she was looking for tough players. She had done time singing hooks on rap trax but what she really wanted was a band. She knew that live, no one could touch her. She found Alec Morton and the Roth boys, three guys who had been around and played with them all. Between the three of them they had played with Ozzy, The del Fuegos, Bessid Union of Souls, Jim Carroll, and Raging Slab. Liza needed a band that could stand next to her and match her hundred watt voice. The chemistry was immediate. Her first meeting with Adam produced two songs. Once they got together with Alec and Charly and played, the deal was sealed. To really experience this lower east side group you have to see them live. They are the best live band out there. As one person put it: “The Liza Colby Sound is the bastard child of Led Zeppelin and Tina Turner.” Go see them and you will be converted, perverted and subverted to the Liza Colby Sound!
