To quote an expression often used in the purchase of boats and RV’s, the two happiest days in owning a timeshare are the day you buy it and the day you sell it.
Now, some people do love their timeshare. According to marketing consultant with Delta Travel, Frank Wisers, “About 70 percent of the people who own timeshare who come through our doors are not happy with their timeshare. The two biggest complaints are that they can’t use it when they want it or the maintenance fees are too high and keep increasing.”
Delta Travel is a full service travel agent which only does business with its members and books all travel at cost.
Wisers went on to say, “When timeshare owners who have experienced all the restrictions of timeshare see our program, they want to get rid of their timeshare and book all of their travel through us.”
Delta has an added benefit for members, which involves a relationship with a third party company who is the best in the industry at selling timeshare. They can also rent them out if members want to keep them but they just can’t use their week in a given year.
Wisers says, “Most people want to get rid of their timeshare. There’s no reason to keep them. They can visit all the same resorts with our program. They have a better chance of getting where they want through us than they do as official owners. In 2013, we’ve implemented a new strategy to really be aggressive in helping our members get rid of their timeshare. Now the two drawbacks are that to sell a timeshare, it can take up to six months or more, depending on how much the seller wants to get for their vacation property. One also has to be a member of our program to utilize our services.”
