    following trends is a must. doesn’t mean you have to copy them . how do you know if your doing somthing different if you dont know what people are doing!

    Easier said than done. If you look at it from a business stakeholders POV you want to know where the market is – and YES then work to do something hopefully unique. But to lead – ad “Start a trend” you need to have the conviction and the ability to push the idea from your own circle of influence out to the “zeitgeist” / “the spirit of the times”. The book “Creativity: Flow and the Psychology of Discovery and Invention” talks about how this happens in detail.
