Penguin is the name of a Google algorithm that helps internet users connect to the information, products and services that they are looking for. It is essentially a set of rules that websites must adhere to in order to achieve higher visibility through Googles search engine.
In todays digital age, the success or failure of a business depends heavily on their web traffic, and a sites web traffic heavily depends on its google rank. In fact, 93% of all activity on the internet starts with some form of search, and Google leads the search market with 65% of all search queries according to Comscore.
Unfortunately, when Google makes changes to the way it indexes websites, it does so without warning and without notifying the owners of the affected websites. Essentially what can happen to a site penalized by Google is that it may show up 5 or 6 pages later (or more) than it did before the update. This is an important distinction because 75% of people never go past the first page of search results. A business could be humming along with leads and queries one day and grinding to a halt the next.
