World Tour of Music Concert Series – Baladino: An Israeli Folk Ensemble (CANAL FULTON CONCERT)
Event on 2013-10-10 19:00:00
Opening the 2013-14 World Tour of Music Concert series is Baladino, brought to the region with the generous support of Art Midwest's World Fest grant program.
This young Israeli Mediterranean folk band combines Jewish Sephardic and Ladino sounds. Ladino is the language of the Sephardim, the Jews who lived in Spain, and it was spoken in the 15th century. The songs in Ladino are links in a chain that connect the Sephardim Jews to Spain, from which they were expelled in 1492.
The band is also influenced by folk music (klezmer) developed by Eastern European Jews and the Yiddish culture. In addition, the band incorporates Turkish and Arabic sounds. The five musicians include Tomer Moked, arranger and string player, Adam Ben Ezra on the string bass, singer Yael Badash, Yshai Afterman and Yonnie Dror playing various wind instruments.Don't miss this unique and high-energy evening.
