SEO 101 Course1. Introduction to SEO – What is SEO?

SEO is the abbreviation for Search Engine Optimization. The process of SEO entails creating a website platform that is optimized for search engine spiders so they may efficiently crawl each public page of a website and understand what the page is about.  When a search engine spider leaves a well optimized page of a website, the spider will be able to pass information back to the search engine describing what the page is about and what keywords the search engine should rank the page for in organic search results. Organic search results provide free traffic from sources such as Google, Yahoo and Bing.2. History of SEO?

Learn how things used to be, how they are now and where they are going in the world of SEO. Understanding the history of SEO and learning from the past will help you make better decisions in moving forward. Some of the history discussed with include Google Search Algorithm updates and outdated techniques.3. How to Approach SEO.

During this section of the course we will discuss how to approach SEO, which requires well researched, planned and focused strategy. SEO is not easy and to have success, you must approach it the correct way, because everything works together. Without a seamless approach to SEO, your strategy will break.

4. The SEO Research Process.

A successful SEO plan is backed by research.  You will learn about the different types of research necessary for an SEO campaign, including answers to these questions:

  • What domain should I choose?
  • Is there a difference between .com and .net?
  • Keyword research and selection
  • What keywords should you choose that capture your target audience?  How hard will it be to rank to each keyword?
  • Competition research
  • What is the level of competition you are up against and what are they doing to rank organically?
  • Content development plan
  • What type of content does your site need to rank?  What type of content would be of most interest to your target audience?

5. How to plan an SEO Campaign.

Planning an SEO campaign is the building block for successful organic search results.  During this section of the course we will take you thorugh a step by step planning process that targets your keywords for organic page ranking.6. What are the necessary Elements of an SEO campaign?

Learn about the elements used in an SEO campaign, that includes Code, CSS, H Tags, Content, Links, Page Formatting, Meta Data, Social Signals, Placement of Text, URL, Page Speed, Images and Video.7. How to optimize a website – The Big Picture.

Search engine optimization is a lot more than having websites link to your site. “On-Site” optimization is the most important foundation piece of SEO.  During this section of the course, we will teach you how to optimize a website from a top-level view, which includes: code structure, folder structure, file naming, image naming, page naming, site speed, internal linking, sitemaps, site performance analysis and8. How to optimize a specific webpage on the website – Target Ranking Basics.

Learn how to optimize a specific page of your website to target specific keywords.  During this phase of the course we will walk you though, step-by-step on how to optimize a page by using the following SEO elements: keyword targeting, meta data, URL, page name, header tags, content, keyword density, page formatting, image use, video embedding, page speed, external linking, social bookmarking and social commenting.9. How to have a website indexed by a Search Engine.

Once a website is built, there are no guarantees that search engines will index all the important pages of the site.  During this part of the course, we will teach you how to create and submit a road map for Google, Yahoo and Bing so that each search engine understands how to get to all pages and identify how many pages exist.10. Tools for SEO

There are many tools available that will help you create, manage and improve an SEO campaign.  During this phase of the course we will discuss two types of tools to help rank your website, with the first being on-site tools such as SEO Plug-ins and the second type is off-site tools that are used for analysis, rank tracking and performance suggestions.11. Ranking and Site Performance Analysis.

Once you have ranked the website and are getting traffic you will need to know how to analyze traffic and understand how the site is performing. This section of the course provides an overview of Google Analytics and Google Webmaster Tools, which are two free products that help you analyze your SEO campaign.12. How to actually rank a website in organic search – Putting SEO into Action.

Now that you have learned the basics of SEO and what is required we teach you how to put each element into play.  This section of the course includes a hands-on approach where the instructor walks each student through the process above so they may apply each piece to their site before they leave the course.  The instructor will also demonstrate real-world sites and discuss how each site has been able to rank organically using SEO.

This training course will run from 10am – 6pm with a 1 hour break for lunch. There are only 16 slots available for this class so please act now to ensure your spot. The small group allows us to answer a wide array of questions and provide the most thorough instruction in a personal setting.

Parking is free, the location and building is pristine and the building is easy to find.

It's always a great idea to bring a pen and paper, laptop, your thinking cap and maybe some food or snacks for throughout the day.

If needed, a laptop can be provided for you with 10 day notice for a small fee. The training begins at 10am, arrive 10-15 minutes early to get situated and log onto the wireless network.
